1. Societal norms and expectations are part of the society. I have experienced the power of the expectations of the community in my life, and I have witnessed it in other people too. Conforming to these expectations of society is the obvious thing to do but there are extents which a person has to exercise self-confidence and defy these expectations. The reason why societal norms are not always possible to achieve is because they are not always practical. This means that some demands shape my personal identity while others do not apply. Societal norms have developed my perception of life and the achievements that I am supposed to make by specific time frames. Societal norms declare that I am supposed to get married in good time and not spend too much time pursuing career or higher education as this will make me less productive. This expectation has made me strive to achieve career and focus of having a family to make me complete. The world would be exciting and enjoyable without having to conform to societal norms. The deviance would make everyone live their lives freely and without striving to meet specific benchmarks of society.

2. Culture is the way of life and it is unique to each community or individual. Culture consists of behavior, lifestyle, food, dress, tradition, beliefs among other aspects. Recognizing culture as a component of society is essential as it gives people a spirit of cohesion and unity. Culture gives people a sense of identity and pride being that culture is a source of heritage. Exercising my culture openly and taking pride in my lifestyle has built my self-confidence and it has created an example for others to emulate. An example of culture as a sense of identity is that I dress to represent my cultural background and this gives me pride and recognition among people from other cultures. The society in which I live has a combination of cultures and this makes my culture unique and admirable. I appreciate other people’s culture as they are equally unique and they represent their way of life. There are cultures that are similar to mine though there are notable differences in some aspects. These cultures with similar elements of culture belong to an ethnic group that is close to mine. These two ethnic groups speak almost the same language but there are notable differences in the linguistics.

3. Purchasing expensive products is a common practice today with enticing marketing gimmicks by traders both online and offline. Marketing today has played a huge role in luring consumers into impulsive spending. Marketing uses appeasing language or even offers that seem relevant for instant purchase of a product. Some products today require subscriptions, and this means that as a customer, I have to pay for the product on a regular basis. The reason why consumers agree to pay for highly-priced goods is due to the habit of poor decision-making. Friends contribute to the decisions we make and peer influence makes us buy expensive goods to match up to our peers who have the same product. Purchasing costly products indicates that we do not have a budget to adhere to and we have uncontrolled spending habits. Poor budgeting skills lead to purchase of expensive and unnecessary products. Products or brands give me a sense of identity and this applies to luxury goods or fashion. Clothes and shoes today denotes style and wearing certain designers make me feel better about myself. This reality encourages me to buy expensive products, and though I intend to change this habit, I wish to control my finances by spending wisely.
