A practitioner in social services has always to be guided by the code of ethics in the profession. Some ethical issues are straightforward as they involve determining what is right and what is wrong. However, some ethical issues may be difficult to deal with unless some essential deliberations are made ( Congress, 2017) . Some of the ethical issues that a practitioner has to deal with are the concept of receiving gifts, the issue of the right to self-determination, having differences in personal values, confidentiality, and researching minors.

Practitioners in social services should follow various values when deciding on ethical dilemmas. One of these is to make sure that one reviews professional guidelines and analyzing before taking any action. Consequently, the practitioner has to always consult with others to prevent a scenario where one's decision and subsequent are not in compliance with the law. The autonomy of the client has to be given the priority whenever one is taking any action or decision ( Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Strom-Gottfried, 2016) . The right to self-determination has always to be upheld unless the client is not in a position to make his or her determination upon which the decision taken should be in his or her best interest. When dealing with minors, it is essential to respect their autonomy and confidentiality has always to be upheld. Social justice should always guide all the actions of the practitioner. For instance, the practitioner always has to respect diversity and ensure there is an equitable distribution of resources. The practitioners have a role to play towards maintaining a professional practice in all social services.
