Social stratification is the technique in which the society ranks people of different classes in terms of their political power, wealth and the social status. The ranking process occurs in a hierarchical manner, especially form the upper class, the middle class and the lower class. On the same note, social mobility refers to the ability of an individual to make a decision to change from a specific social stratification to another social class. Whenever, people improve their life or diminish in terms of economic value they tend to change positions within the social esterification system (Kimmel,Aronson & Bridges, 2019). In numerous circumstance, social stratification is quite often determines on the basis of an individual’s income, employment status and the capability for such an individual to afford housing. On the same note, issues regarding poverty rates also contribute quite significantly to understanding the perspective of social stratification. Ideally, issues detailing inadequate distribution of wealth and the feminization of poverty are a bigger threat to achieving sustainability in an economy dominated by the lower class persons (Kimmel et al., 2019). It is worth noting that people can take a shift of both the upward mobility and downward social mobility. In this context, upward social mobility a shift to a better life with good income and a downward social mobility denote poverty and a threat to the nation’s economy.

The readings of social stratification and social mobility have greatly influenced my thoughts on the American dream based on the fact social mobility and social stratification plays an important role in shaping the economy of a nation. In a circumstance where the social mobility takes an upward shift means that a nation stands a better chance of achieving sustainability, especially on the basis of its economic progression. On the other hand, when the middle class go down the social ladder means that the economy of a nation is in very bad shape (Kimmel et al., 2019). Hence, every government should enact policies that champion for economic development in a bid to rescue the citizen its citizen from the challenge of economic oppression. Consequently, it is quite categorical to note that the growth and development pillars of a nation depends on its human capital, and this means that social classes means a lot to nations, and this call for the need for economic inclusivity for every national.

As observed by Kimmel et al. (2019), the perspective of social mobility is conceptualized on the basis of the mindset of a person. The growth mindset of a person determines his/her level of social class. In this context, issues such as the size of wealth an individual owns become to the limelight. Besides, being in a position to own a car or a home qualifies as some of the most significant concept of defining the social ladder of a person. The perspective of social mobility could also be conceptualized based on the experiences in life that make a person move from one social class to the next. Such issues could be based on loss of a job or even death. Culture and social mobility are related in several ways but the determinant fact dwells on the fact that different cultures define social classes in a different perspective (Kimmel et al., 2019). However, it is quite significant to note social mobility in a cultural perspective is the feeling of achieving the sense of self-actualization. In this context, concerns such as marriage and leadership connect culture with social mobility.
