One of the main experiences that influenced my decision to join the profession is that I desire to help people. When I was growing up, I witnessed many children beaten by their parents. As a social worker, I desire to change the lives of people who suffer from domestic violence. Although I may not get a thank you cards for the services, there is personal satisfaction when an adult or child can overcome certain difficulties such as domestic violence ( Berns, 2017) . One of the greatest rewards in life is assisting an individual to become a better person or overcome problems.
Most of the experiences have involved domestic abuse where I worked as a volunteer in one of the community organizations. It made me realize the significance of identifying problems facing particular people in the society and the role of better policies that will address such problems. Social workers are often at the forefront in identifying and addressing particular problems in the society such as domestic abuse ( Ferguson, 2016) . Due to the experiences, I will be able to offer an accurate reflection of the issues facing the society while proposing laws and legislation that will address the problems in the community.

There are many problems facing the society, but I will focus on domestic violence. The main victims of domestic violence are children and women. Social workers have a significant role in protecting children in the society. As I was growing up, my neighbors used to physically and emotionally abuse their children. Between 2000 and 2017, there was a 7.4% rise in cases of child abuse ( Berns, 2017) . Most of the cases were related to sexual abuse, neglect, and physical abuse. Social workers have a vital role in reducing rate of domestic abuse. Furthermore, social workers should work tirelessly to counteract the increasing levels of child abuse in the country.
One of the expectations of graduate social work education is working with child protective services. About 700000 children experience abuse annually. All the cases are unique because they are often abused in different ways. Social workers should work with child protective services to minimize the frequency of child maltreatment, abuse, and neglect. Due to population increase, there will be a greater need for social workers in the field. After graduation, social workers should work with child protective services to establish stable and safe environments for all children ( Berns, 2017) . Moreover, families will benefit greatly from community education regarding child abuse.
I am particularly interested in social service interventions. Municipal and state governments offer a wide range of services developed to treat or prevent domestic violence. Some of the interventions include protective guardianship, caregiver and family support programs, shelters for victims of abuse, advocacy, and counseling for the victims of abuse, and educational programs for people who are at risk of abuse. The interventions may also involve both therapeutic and casework services developed to offer family support. It may also involve respite care, income support, in-home health services, parenting education, family counseling, legal services, institutional placement, education, and supervision among many other services ( Ferguson, 2016) .
Some of the skills and abilities that are important in studying the profession include emotional intelligence and active listening. Social workers should reflect on what was said by clients while exhibiting a high level of sensitivity, self-awareness, and empathy. The profession also requires critical thinking and organization. Every case is unique, and social workers should be flexible when addressing each case ( Ferguson, 2016) . Besides, the profession needs setting boundaries and tolerance. Social workers solve issues in diverse communities, and they should ensure that the pressure from work does not affect their normal lives. Besides, they also require inner strength and good communication skills.
One of the anticipated social issues that may affect my graduate studies is where to get employed. Social workers are required in different settings such as nonprofit organizations, county social services, nursing homes, mental health centers, correctional facilities, hospitals, and schools. The duties will be different according to the population being assisted. I will be required to use social workers’ abilities and skills in different settings while solving unique cases ( Berns, 2017) . Moreover, the job may be quite demanding and may require the social worker to work during holidays, work nights, and weekends. Also, emergency services may occur at night.
One of the main difficulties anticipated in the profession includes addressing diverse needs with limited resources. Due to the population increase and diversity, the range of duties is expected to increase exponentially while the number of social workers remains limited. Due to the diverse needs, it may stretch the resources allocated for social services. Also, some of the cases may affect the social workers emotionally. Social work involves connecting with people who are experiencing various difficulties and understanding their pain. If social workers are unable to address the pressures of work, it may end up negatively affecting their social lives. Furthermore, when an individual gets an M.S.W, they are required to know a little bit of almost everything so that they can solve the diverse needs ( Ferguson, 2016) .
I will not be applying to transfer from another school because I am currently satisfied with the current learning environment. A transfer will affect not only my social life but also academics. The current environment offers adequate skills and experience to ensure I become one of the best social workers. Also, I have developed good relationships with both students and instructors. A transfer may require forming new relationships. Therefore, I am not applying for a transfer.
