The health sector is one of the critical sectors of American society. This is a position that has been gained due to the vital role it plays in ensuring that public health is attained. Amid the emergence of the need to adopt quality and effective healthcare, the health sector has experienced significant trends (Delaney, 2018). These trends directly impact the services that are delivered in the healthcare industry. It is due to the role played by healthcare in the American society that it has attracted huge attention on how to fix some critical aspects. Much of the concerns have been embedded on how to redesign the healthcare system without forgoing its primary purpose. It is, therefore, imperative to explore some of the common trends that impact the healthcare industry. Nursing shortage, health care reforms, and managed care and collaborative are some of the standard trends that are reviewed.

Nursing Shortage

The nursing shortage is a critical concern that continues to threaten the steps made in improving health care in society. This is because the nursing shortage paralyzes some of the necessary services in the health industry (Rosenberg, 2019). As a registered nurse, the nursing shortage has a significant impact on my profession. This due to the imbalance that is created when nurses are unavailable while healthcare services need to be administered. This is an implication that my future practice as a registered nurse will be negatively impacted due to the high rate of dissatisfaction and burn out.

Clients are one of the most affected parties when the nursing shortage is experienced. This is because clients depend on nurses for the deliverance of services. In instances where nurses are few, clients may overcrowd at the healthcare centre. This is an implication that more risks will arise due to a high number of clients compared to nurses. The nursing shortage also means that the level of care to patients will negatively be impacted. This is because the available human resource in terms of nurses will be overstretched to match the demands of the clients. In return, clients will receive poor and ineffective care. A high rate of mortality and morbidity as a result of a high patient-to-nurse ratio is likely to be experienced.

Nursing organizations are bodies that are given the responsibility by health care professionals to oversee some crucial aspects in the health sector. In this context, nursing organizations have a significant role to play in combatting nursing shortages. Through their professionalism, nursing organizations can design and draft proposals that target to eliminate the nursing shortage. The organizations can also cooperate with other government bodies to ensure that the underlying issues leading to nursing shortages are addressed.

Health Care Reform

The new changes in the health sector have been facilitated by vital reforms that have been initiated. There is no doubt that much of the healthcare reforms have primarily targeted the core players in the healthcare sector. As a registered nurse in future, I believe the initiated health care reforms will positively impact my practices. This is because health care reforms have in recent past emerged as a tool to constitute, reconstitute and integrate vital changes into the health sector. Considering that health care reforms target nurses in their address, I will benefit from the changes. Reforms that seeks to better the working conditions of health care professionals will positively impact my work. On the other hand, changes that seek to better the way health care services are delivered will also be significant in my future practices.

Clients are yet another party that is poised to benefit from the health care reforms. This is because much of the health reforms are constituted with the needs of the clients in mind. This is an implication that clients are better positioned to benefit from health care reforms that tend to improve the health sector. Introduction of reforms such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a positive step towards providing quality care to patients (Obama, 2016). This is because the act seeks to increase the insurance coverage to all classes in society. This means that clients will have better access to quality care through the insurance coverage, whether on private coverage or Medicaid basis. Thus, health care reforms are beneficial to the clients due to their address.

Health care reform is another trend that nursing organization play significant roles in creating and implementing. Nursing organizations are critical because they understand the health sector well, so they have the upper hand in the reforms. This means that nursing organizations have been obliged with the mandate to ensure that they share the reform table to create effective changes. The ability to collaborate with other bodies implicated in making health care reforms is an opportunity for organizations to promote nursing grievances. The implementation process also requires the skills of nursing organizations. This is because they represent several nurses that can easily oversee the implementation process. Therefore, nursing organizations are also vital in advancing nursing amid health care reforms trends.

Managed Care and Collaborative

Managed care and collaborative is an ideal programme that brings together nurses and health facilities to administer services at an affordable cost (Morley & Cashell, 2017). This means that managed care and collaborative is primarily designed to bring quality services to the people pitting various professionals. As a registered nurse, I foresee this trend leading to more benefits in future. Managed and collaborative care will also ensure that I learn from other healthcare professionals. In return, I will be in a position to understand the trend better and provide quality care to the patients. Considering that managed care is one of the steadily adopted modes of health, it will give me the exposure I need to understand public health.

Amid the adoption of managed care and collaborative, clients are poised to reap significant benefits. This is because the trend seeks to reform how health care sectors and insurance providers can improve public health. This is an objective that is to be achieved by ensuring that health care services are available at affordable rates. The design of managed care and collaborative trend addresses the needs of patients that could not be effectively addressed by other types of settings. Thus, clients will be positively impacted by the trend of managed care and collaborative.

Nursing organizations have critical roles to play as far as managed care and collaborative is concerned. This is because the trend is designed to impact the way service is delivered in the healthcare industry. One of the significant roles that nursing organizations can utilize in advancing nursing through this trend is through involvement. The nursing organization can use the opportunity provided by the trend to influence significant changes in the health sector. The engagement of the nursing organization in managed care and collaborative schemes will lead to the advancement of nursing.

Conclusion

Summarily, societal trends are significant changes that impact the health sector. The adoption of quality and effective care subjects the health sector to both positive and negative changes. The nursing shortage is one of the critical concerns that need to be addressed. This is because it paralyzes the entire health care system. Health care reform, as a trend signifies a positive future in the healthcare industry. This is because beneficial reforms directly improve general public health. Lastly. Managed care and collaborative is a vital mode that is promising to the health sector. This is due to the benefits it brings to the general public in terms of affordable health care.
