Twitter chats are usually a schedule of frequent discussions hosted by the same twitter account, either weekly, daily, or monthly depending on the host's preference. The important thing is that the chat happens concurrently. Every twitter chat uses a hashtag and mainly concentrates on one broad subject . I plan to host a weekly twitter live chat on sociology every Tuesday of the week from 1 pm to 1. 30 pm. The first chat will be on 13 th October 2020. The idea is to get as many students as possible to participate in this conversation during their free time, and it is a brief thirty minutes discussion. The chat will use #sociologytuesday to attract online twitter participants. The hashtag will also allow students to follow the conversation and participate in it. The purpose of the twitter chat is to discuss sociology in general, starting with its description. For the first live chat, the discussion will respond to the following questions;

What is Sociology?

When did Sociology emerge as a discipline?

What were the main influences on the rise of sociology?

Is Sociology a social science?

What methods does Sociology depend on for social research? (Qualitative or quantitative?)

Why is Sociology important to organizations?

How do sociologists use the internet?

Individual Responses to Questions.

What is Sociology?

Sociology is a scientific field studying societies covering social association dynamics and cultural experiences, the empirical study of community, and human behavior. It uses societies to hypothesize and explain human behavior through empirical research and sociological theories. "Sociology" as a term unifies all research on humankind, including studies from other fields such as psychology. It does not substitute other social sciences but targets other disciplines by concentrating primarily on processes and subject matters (Kar, 2018).

When Did Sociology Emerge as A Discipline?

Sociology is among the essential disciplines of social sciences. It evolved as an empirical reaction to modernity in the 19th century when it became a discipline (Kar, 2018). Sociologists aimed to comprehend what social classes have in common and create a social dissolution remedy, which resulted from globalization.

What Were the Main Influences On The Rise Of Sociology?

The revolutions in technology, democracy, and industrial rise promoted the growth of sociology. The science Revolution supported the idea that reliable facts and not just theories would be the basis for rational assumptions about society's functioning. Revolution in democracy generated the proposal that citizens are responsible for social structure, and human activities will also resolve social issues. A series of new, significant social problems resulting from the Industrial Revolution drew many social theorists' interest.

Is Sociology A Social Science?

Yes, it is a social science that explores human societies, their relationships, and their systems. If we suggest that sociology is a social science, it means that it uses research to explain society's various facets investigated by sociologists. Research in sociology also involves studying forms of violence, deviance, and protest of social rank or stratification, mass movements, and societal reforms, and cultural distortion.

What Methods Does Sociology Depend on For Social Research? (Qualitative or Quantitative?)

Sociologists mainly rely on qualitative techniques for social research to illustrate significant developments in social interactions and establish frameworks for forecasting social changes and responding to social changes. Qualitative approaches such as focus interviews, group conversations, and ethnographic techniques help researchers to understand social dynamics (Faulkner, 2018).

Why Is Sociology Important to Organizations?

As institutions, which have an essential role in shaping people's behavior, sociology aims to figure out how institutions and companies interrelate with people externally and internally. Social interactions within organizations can either be their source of strength or weakness. Sociology identifies how to use interpersonal relationships as a source of growth for organizations.

How Do Sociologists Use the Internet?

The internet is a subject study under sociology. It provides a platform for analyzing online societies (like in chatrooms), digital cultures, and virtual environments, systemic shifts in the transition of industrial into digital societies that create universal social change (Marres, 2017). Online cultures may undergo an objective evaluation and qualitative representation, such as interactive ethnography, through network research. Sociologists also use the internet to examine global transition through observational demographics or the analysis of online communication styles such as messaging and icons.

The following invitation will be sent to fellow student emails and student Whatsapp groups and posted on the student's notice board to advertise the twitter chat.
