The art of work I have selected are the sonnets written by William Shakespeare, and the piece of art is located at URL http://www.shakespeare-online.com/sonnets/ . The sonnets are among Shakespeare’s leading works created between the years 1592 to 1598, which despite love as the dominant theme still have other different underlying themes. At around 1609, Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets were the first published together. These sonnets created by Shakespeare are a continuation of the traditional Renaissance sonnets. They trace back to Petrarch in Italy at around 14 th century and later to England in the 16 th century.
William Shakespeare a writer who lived over 400 years ago is one of the best English poets and one of the world’s pre-eminent dramatists. Moreover, the sonnets represent the Western culture mainly talking about love among humans, and the approach is mainly Dionysian while my approach to the Shakespearean sonnets is Apollonian. The passion and emotional qualities motivated the writer into creating these sonnets while my rationality led me to notice the emotions embedded in the sonnets reminding me of my own love life hence realizing that love can move mountains.

Sonnet 130 is a good example of the misfortunes of love where his mistress hence betrays the poet, and this brought my rationality into action. The sonnets expressed here are wonderful works in this genre, which tells more about love and teaches us not to fall in love with it blindly may lead to misfortunes like in sonnet 130. All these sonnets carry different messages regarding love, passion and our youthfulness, mostly found in sonnets 1-17. Here the poet informs us that we do not live forever hence, the best time to have children is during our youth when we are still beautiful. This piece of art is full of messages, and I would recommend it to others to read and learn the messages embedded.
