The year is 1898, and we are headed to our most significant victory in the Spanish-American war. The war gave us a massive win, and reflecting on it, I find numerous reasons for our success. The US won the war because of its naval superiority since the war was mainly determined by the naval battles and destruction of enemy warships. Our ships were more advanced in technology and numbers when compared to the Spanish ships. During the war declaration, Spain lacked enough workforce and plans for getting reinforcements from Spain (PBS, 2020). This disorganized state gave the more organized US an upper hand in the war. The US also had many troops in all the war fronts than the more scattered Spanish troops. Finally, our army gained the support of the Philippine and Cuban people in the war, making it easier to defeat the Spanish troops. We also won this war due to the advancements in our military, both tactically and in numbers. With many soldiers' availability for reinforcements, we were confident that we would outnumber the Spaniards, who were very few.
The US had maintained its isolationism state since its independence until the end of the Spanish-American war. After winning the war with Spain, the country had gained foreign territories (PBS, 2020). The US gained control over Hawaii, the Philippines, and Guam, thus becoming an imperial power.

The war exposed me to a broader insight into international relations. Through this war, I experienced the harshness of wars, sleeping in bushes, and setting-up temporary camps. I also experienced how war tactics can help win any battle. For instance, we decided to attack the Spanish fleet, which was the country's main offensive gear. The war also gave an experience of actions that can trigger international wars.
