I think people wash their hands as well as they should. However, it is important to note that a majority don’t wash them as often as is recommended. Washing hands before and after the recommended times is important as it breaks the chain of transmission of harmful pathogens that cause and spread diseases. Washing hands promotes good hygiene, which is crucial for ensuring health among people. A health facility should be well cleaned to maintain the highest form of standards of hygiene as required of health facilities. There should be regulatory bodies that oversee the level of cleanliness of hospitals and other facilities offering health services.

I think patients and families care about a clean environment. Patients and their families don’t want to get nosocomial infections more, so I believe they want to reduce the number of days spent in the hospital especially for the in-patients. When patients and their families experience a good environment, they are likely to return to that establishment for future healthcare needs. Clean hospitals promote health not only for patients and their families, but also for their healthcare providers. Occupational health is maintained for hospital workers while treating patients.

I have walked into a health care facility and thought it not clean. It is worrying for patients to experience dirty healthcare facilities. It brings worry and doubts about the quality of health services. I think it matters that hospitals are clean. Hospitals are places that people seek medical care when need arises, and as such they shouldn’t turn into points of disease transmission. With the high number of possible sources of infection, there is need to invest in cleaning services and ensure patients and their families and friends are safe when in hospital. It is important that patients are treated and cycle of transmission of communicable diseases.
