State of the Union 2018
According to Cuddy, US President Donald Trump used the maiden speech to talk about his plans covering boast of economic achievements, immigration and threaten foreign adversaries 1 . President Trump looks at the immigration aspect by calling a compromise where some industries will have heartburn by pushing for tighter immigration controls. The greatest concern for President Trump is in creating opportunity since “Americans are dreamers too,” and thus, they need to thrive. As such, the economic engine of America needs to be rev and the laws enforced, which were well shared through stories that highlighted his policies and priorities.
The Democratic response criticizes the President’s dangerous, destructive, and divisive agenda that gives more power to the progressive voices that are mobilizing for the fight that is ahead. The American promise of all people being worthy, count and equal are being broken by the same administration that callously has appraised the worthiness of the American people. This same administration is aware of who makes the cut and who is bargained away 2 . Kennedy was chosen by the Democratic Party to respond to President Trump’s SOTU as a form of laying out the party’s vision for America. According to Kennedy, they want the living wage, paid leave and affordable childcare to remain because families in America need to survive. The pensions in question need to be solvent, fair trade pacts, roads and rust free bridges, and education that is affordable and good. The health care system the Democrats chose is one that offers its patients mercy.
