Abstract
Global warming is the continuous rise of the mean temperature of the earth, adequate enough to cause a change of climate. This may vary with some regions registering higher than average temperature while others have above average temperature. In particular, the Middle East has continuously demonstrated an increase of its average temperature which is higher than what is seen in other parts of the world. For instance, Doha in Qatar which is a rapidly growing city has registered constant increase in its temperature (Huffpost, 2012). This can hugely be attributed to the growing infrastructure thatcomes with structures that absorb heat and environmental pollution. In their view, most citizens would like more “green spaces” in order to combat the rising temperatures in their city. However, if no action is taken to reduce environmental pollution, there can be negative long-lasting effects for any human activities and development. Key words: global warming, environmental pollution, infrastructure.
STATISTICS OF QATAR AND GLOBAL WARMING
Qatar is one of the major countries in the Middle East. Its capital city is Doha where more than fifty percent of Qatar population live. Doha is situated at the centre of Qatar’s eastern region where its coast borders the Persian Gulf. A huge number of economic activities are carried out in Doha since it is Qatar’s major urban center. Land reclamation had to be done from the coast in order to house the increasing population as well as to maintain its pace of development. Globally, it registers the highest rates of carbon dioxide emissions attributed to its huge industrialization base. The climate of Doha is generally hot and almost desert-like with its temperatures exceeding thirty eight degrees Celsius during summer (Nordhaus & Boyer, 2003. Moreover, the city receives the least precipitation, with almost none during summer. With the increase in temperature, the city is likely to become inhabitable in the next decade due to extreme heat. This has been the major subject of heated debates.

Researchers have foreseen that heat waves are likely to occur more frequently, intensely and last for longer periods because of climatic changes. Studies done in the area have looking into death rates associated with heat have concordantly, establishedsignificant relationship between deaths and increased temperature. With this trend, there will be danger of lacking enough and quality fresh water (Sinn, 2008).The elevated growth of population in the area coupled with the accompanying elevated demands for fresh water will further implicate the area.Changes in climatewill cause significant variability in rainfall amounts hence rendering the area prone to drought. Most of theseforeseen changes in climatewill negatively impact the appealing nature of Doha as well as other Arab countries. Moreover, change in climate is foreseen to impact negatively on their infrastructure.
Conclusion
The Middle East countries are one of most unguarded regions that are likely to be most hit by negative effects of climate change. Doha, is likely to be one of the most hit cities due to its highly industrialized nature. Therefore, apt measures should be taken to mitigate these projected outcomes such as reducing its carbon emissions and promoting green zones such as parks and gardens as well as energy conservation.
