Sociology is defined as the study of structure that helps in the functioning of a society. Sociology is critical in today’s society as it the study of social events. Sociology tries to explain why things happen so and what causes them to happen so. The research of social events is geared by various theories namely; Conflict theory, Structural-functional theory, and Symbolic interactionism. The methods are paradigms and try to explain the sociological thinking of the society and the individuals. Structural-functionalism is the critical theory in the paper and it is the theory that tries to explain why the society operates the way it runs and the relationship between various social groups. The approach will look at the agricultural industry as a social group and how it has changed over time. The Paper will give a summary and the importance of the theory and try to agree or disagree on the implication of the theory as stated by ( Henry, 2016 ).
According to ( Henry, 2016 ) functionalism is a theory that fits all organizations. The approach can be analogically compared to the human body, and every piece is interconnected in all ways for it to function in its capacity fully. The theory is related to each other as without one part the other part will not work correctly ( Henry, 2016 ). The approach is entirely dependent on all the parts, and if poverty and corruption cripple one part of the society, it will affect the other part of the community in a particular way.

Structural functionalism reveals how the society changes over time ( Henry, 2016 ). The society tries to adapt to change to increase stability over an extended period. There are new technologies and policies which have been formulated constantly, and the functionalism theory can provide the ability of the society to change to adapt to this changes. Change is good for those who accept and change with the change. The government in the early days' used traditional means of farming, this led to the low production of crops, but with the inventions of machines, those who decided to embrace the change increased their productivity.
Similarly, the theory greatly focuses on the social facts and its importance to the society. Social facts are described to be the law cultural values, norms, morals and religions that govern society in their daily activities. The social facts provide a foundation for building a society. All social facts wholly depend on each other. An analogical example is seen when in a society of Muslim religion the law will mostly revolve the Muslim religion. The Muslim religion is just a social fact, and the law is another on, but both depend on each other. Social facts are important since they help in the unification of people in that society since most of the rules and the regulation are described in that society. The social facts help in holding the society together ( Henry, 2016 ).
In conclusion, the structural-functioning theory is essential in today’s society. The approach helps to connect to all organization in today’s society. The theory brings organization such as governments together in working to achieve a common goal. Similarly, the approach helps the community to adapt and change with time to remain valid. Finally, the theory brings out the importance of social facts in the society. Thus the paper agree with Henry (2016 ), that the theory has had a lot of impact in today’s society.
