Student's Letter of Intent

Part One

I am a graduate student at a school in the USA, majoring in mass communication with a bachelor’s degree. I have chosen your institution because of its status as far as mass communication is concerned. Firstly, I acknowledge that your institution is among the best performing in the country, producing many intelligent mass communication graduates. Its established national reputation has influenced by choice to apply for my doctoral studies. Having gone through your doctoral page, I must conclude that it is the best institution that will help me build by mass communication career. This is because your institution promotes the study of not only communication but also culture and change. This in return helps in accommodating emergent identities and while at the same time adopting transformation practices. The fact that your institution has a faculty designed to integrate program studies that are effective in meeting student’s personal needs is vital in my interest to join you. This will enable me to identify my weaknesses and strengths while at the same time offering me an opportunity to improve on my poor areas.

In the doctorate portal of your institution, I learned that your learning environment is very friendly to allow career growth. Through the address of social and environmental justice issues, one can explore both local and international matters. Considering that your institution is internationally recognized, it will allow me to learn from the best. This is because your institutions have research and publication programs spread in many countries around the world. This will further my experience, especially on international matters. Working with qualified personnel in research fields will further expose me to a better experience. This is an indication that I will not just study, but learn from best individuals that have prior experience about mass communication at international levels. The expertise amongst your team has motivated my choice to join you, to acquire effective knowledge about mass communication.

I learned that your institution also provides an opportunity for new students to learn from other recognizable research institutions. This is facilitated through collaborative efforts that exist within the institution and other well and best-performing institutions. This will enable me to experience the diversity by meeting various students that are also majoring in a doctorate in mass communication. Another major factor that influenced me to choose you as my ideal destination for learning my doctorate in mass communication is the job opportunities that you offer to your graduates. You also have options for graduates to select their best choice of areas that they would like to work from. This will not limit my place of work around the city, but I will opt for rural areas since I like covering events at the grassroots. While many job opportunities revolve around academia, I like your institution because a graduate has an option to select from public sectors if they do not like the opportunities available in academic sectors.

The final reason that has attracted my interest to learn in your institution is the fact that your doctorate program takes a considerable length. As compared to other institutions that offers doctorate in communication, your institution has a friendly learning schedule that incorporates students’ needs as the priority. This is very helpful, especially to students like me who want to have efficient time to cover necessities within the provided learning period. Concerning my plans, your doctorate learning length will give me an efficient time to complete my studies. It will be significant since I will be able to plan for my career future in advance.

Part Two

I would like to investigate two significant factors that have adversely affected the society. Firstly, the effects of social media on youth are at the center of my study. This is a problem that has largely affected the morals and education of the youths. This has been influenced by addiction, especially from social media platforms that attract many youths. While the contents of social media are regulated, the youths at many instances access wrong contents that negatively impact their morals. My interest in investigating the effects of social media has been influenced by the lack of enough research about it. Despite its effects being evident, many media houses have done very little to bring the problem to light. In return, the effects have continued to affect society by specifically the youths who are perceived as the next generation.

Secondly, I would investigate the influence of advertising on consumer behavior. Considering that consumer should be given the priority when it comes to product and services, advertisement too has a big influence on their behavior. The investigation results will be significant especially on identifying the positive and negative influences that advertising has towards the perception and behaviors of consumers. Although there have been various research regarding the position of advertising on consumer behavior, I believe that the investigations have not touched the most influential paradigms that determine consumer choices. Thus, I will use my opportunity while pursuing a doctorate in your institution to establish critical answers about advertisement and consumer behavior.

Part Three

While there are incentives to students joining your institution especially tuition fees, I would like to state that I will be able to pay for my studies. My parents will support me financially so that I can be able to pay my school tuition once admitted. I will leave the opportunity of the incentives to other students who cannot afford the tuition fees, to save the resources.
