Synergy refers to the attainment of cooperation levels in a team exercise. Journalism relies on teamwork and effective communication. Attaining the requisite performance requires continuous interaction anchored on robust understanding among team members to enable them to contribute towards successful delivery and creation of content. I have had a couple of experiences, some fulfilling while others were disappointing when it comes to teams, and performing in groups. Over the past months, we have had to take our studies virtually. While it remains a frontier, many students were yet to experience; the majority has appreciated the online platforms and sessions. My reflection draws on a period, whereas a group, we failed to teach the appropriate synergy necessary for conducting our class discussion sessions.
We had just reported for our semester early in the year when the Corona Virus reality hit a global scale. Across the country, states were taking precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus best. Among the immediate initiatives was the shutting of learning institutions across all levels. When we were introduced to virtual learning, we were to form group discussions that would help us manage our course work and attend to assignments. I found myself in a group of four. We were not well acquainted, and it made it difficult to engage productively. Often, we would hold short discussions and sign off after assigning each of us a section of the assignment. There was a communication breakdown among us, and we could not be productive and objective in our assignment submissions. My group's sorry state would be revealed when we would register unsatisfactory results across our assignment submissions in the initial assignments we were involved in as a group. I continue to regret the lost opportunities in formulating an objective group with my colleagues since these results would be reflected in my final semester performance.
