Artifact 1 HCIN 540 Self-Assessment #1

This Self-Assessment completed in HCIN 540 demonstrates why is important to establish patient ownership of the healthcare record. This assignment answers two questions: 1. Why is important to establish patient ownership of the healthcare record? 2. One of the largest problems with the healthcare information security has always been inappropriate use by authorized users. How do HIPPA and the HITECH Act help to curb this problem. First, you have to have a clear understanding of how patient’s records are managed, how patients can make informed choices, and how they can track their health progress. This will help in making feel like they are more empowered to understand their health conditions. Second, I have learned that the major challenges of managing patient data are how to limit inappropriate access of patient data. The HITECH Act offers better privacy guidelines to protect and enhance patient rights . The HIPPAA rules enables patient to have control over their health information.

Artifact 2: HCIN 540 Self-Assessment #3

In this Self-Assessment assignment completed in HCIN 540, the question being asked is: How do you envision technology enhancing patient or consumer education in your setting? This work examines how health information has transformed the quality of healthcare services. Health care providers can utilize technology to manage time during admission, discharge, and when reviewing patient’s cases. These technologies have enhanced interactive abilities as patients search for information online. The increased usage of social media for communication can help patients receive information about various diseases and live healthier. I learned that with the growing digitization and virtual healthcare services, these technologies are able to limit hospital visitation.

Artifact 3: HCIN 543 National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI)

This assignment completed in HCIN 543 demonstrates the understanding of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and how it can improve the nurse quality performance. This analysis was based on a research study NDNQI conducted on a patient fall to evaluate the US hospitals' fall classification (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2014). The research demonstrated how databases could be used to link patients and nursing staff within the unit care. The research indicated that members of the hospitals of NDNQI could benefit from consistent reporting, including quality performance. This provides a national benchmark and also helps in improving service quality. I also noted that NDNQI is a standardized methodology in reporting and measuring injuries fall cases. I learned that NDNQI is ideal in assessing the uniformity in fall injury scenarios and in making a precise measurement of injury levels. Members of hospitals with NDNQI play a crucial role in ensuring that all information is collected within the specified guidelines.
