Technological advancements have had a significant influence on healthcare. Information technology has changed how information and data is processed in all sectors of society, including the healthcare sector ( Sheikh, et al., 2017) . As a result, policies have been put in place to regulate the use of information technology in medicine. Informatics involves computation systems that processes, generates, presents, and stores information ( El, 2014) . Since information is a crucial resource in the medical sector, computer technology has played a great role in ensuring that medical practitioners have access to accurate information at their convenience. It has also made it possible for medical institutions and processions to store and process large batches of data, which have revolutionized the medical sector. Even though informatics and information technology have brought about numerous benefits to the medical sector, concerns such as patient privacy and ethical use of data has necessitated the formulation of policy ( Murray, 2007) . Regulations and public policy have established a practical structure for the use of electronic systems in health. The bureaucratic entities have ensured that the system is regulated to protect both the providers and patients ( El, 2014) . Without the implementation of these policies, information technology would have been vulnerable to abuse and misuse, having a negative impact on both healthcare providers and patients.

It is inevitable that technology will continue to change in the future. New discoveries and advancements will continue to push the boundaries of information technology, in turn affecting how the technology is applied in the medical sector ( Sheikh, et al., 2017) . As information technology becomes more efficient, more data and information from patients and other stakeholders would be collected. Therefore, I would recommend for the future policy to focus on the safety and privacy of data, so that the technology can be used optimally to improve healthcare equality and quality ( Sheikh, et al., 2017) . Once patients and caregivers are confident about the safety and privacy of information, it is easy for them to use information to improve care outcomes for all patients.
