While working in an outfit manufacturing company, my evaluation indicate that the facility had not put up sufficient measures towards protecting the workers. At the workplace, the employees had exposure to various types of hazards, including both non-chemical and chemical hazards. As a result, a number of workers kept on calling in sick on different occasions. Other workers handed over their resignations due to health complications. Currently, the facility is faced with several legal suits from personnel seeking compensation for being exposed to health hazards. The company lacked proper ventilation to facilitate proper flow and circulation of air within and outside of the work stations. The workers engaged in different operations for long hours, with little or no rest time between the shifts. Employees did not have gas masks and other important gear to protect them from chemical fumes and the company made no efforts to provide such.
There is need to make sure that the conditions of working at the company are remedied to make the workplace more favorable for the workforce. The staff should be permitted to work for shorter durations of shifts to let them to gain sufficient rest. As for employees deployed in areas that produce hazardous chemicals, the company should be provide them with gas masks. The workplace needs to be properly ventilated to facilitate free movement of air. It is also imperative for the company to restructure the processes at the facility and enable job rotation. Lastly, the employees should be educated on upholding high standards of safety and health at the workplace.
