As a nurse, it is important to belong to a professional organization for the purpose of professional networking, enhancing professional goals and in order to take advantages of opportunities that may arise. Personally, two professional organizations that I would want to be a member of include The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN).
The American Holistic Nurses Association is a non-profit membership organization that serves nurses and alternative health care professionals. AHNA organizes conferences, national nurses’ week, annual conferences which provide good opportunities for students to participate (ANHA Home Page, 2020) . The events will help in connecting my clinical practice to other external factors that impact nursing. The organization also has networking programs such as careers in holistic nursing, chapter directory, nurse networking calls, and journal (ANHA Home Page, 2020) . I will participate by attending the networking programs and interact with other professionals in the nursing profession and thereby expand my networking opportunities because it will connect me with career boards and scholarship opportunities.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
AHNA has a mission to illuminate holism in the nursing profession, research, community, education, and advocacy (ANHA Home Page, 2020) . It advocates for holistic nursing and also promotes the education of nurses and other health care professionals and therefore I will be able to gain more knowledge, skills, and experience. Since modern healthcare keeps on changing, AHNA will help me provide high quality to patients through their up-to-date resources such as newsletters, articles, and webinars. The national conferences and online training they offer will also help me achieve the professional credits necessary for certification. Since the association is at the forefront of policy making processes, I will have an opportunity to participate in policy making process both at the national and state level.
The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a nursing authority that improves the health care of both women and newborns in the United States (AWHNONN Home Page, 2020) . AWHONN does that by advocating, researching, and creating high quality and evidence-based principles of health care in the field of women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal care.
AWHONN organizes training and mentoring programs to nurses involved in women’s health and maternal child care. AWHONN also supports and empowers nurses through education, advocacy, and research (AWHNONN Home Page, 2020) . As a student, I intend to attend these forums so that I can increase my knowledge, skills, and experience in relation to caring for women and newborns. The AWHONN convention is an event organized by the association for nurses to participate and network. I will participate in the convention by attending and connecting with other professionals. It also has educational sessions or workshops which I intend to attend.
AWHONN will be important for my career development because it offers advocacy, research, and educational activities whose intention is to promote the health of women and newborns. The association will also offer me an opportunity to create networks in my profession. Through its journals, I will be able to be updated on the new research and practices in the nursing industry. Its education program will provide guidance which will enable me to grow in my profession because I will stay informed on the up to date developments in the industry and also on the best practices.
The leadership opportunity I would strategize to achieve is be midwifein-charge nurse. After being a registered nurse and gaining experience, I will implement the knowledge and resources I will have gained in the workshops on communication skills, leadership and management to discharge my duties as a mid-wife nurse in-charge. As amidwife charge nurse, I will ensure that there is high level of patient care by providing guidance to other midwife nurses. I will use the knowledge and skills gained from the events organized by the associations as an educational resource for other nurses. I will manage, supervise, and assist the nursing staff. I will ensure that we as nurses focus on supporting women during labor and delivery process.
