According to the provided resources, the healthcare environment is facing a lot of challenges. The most significant of them all is the issue of healthcare costs, which needs to be addressed. Many Americans cannot afford to purchase healthcare insurance plans since they are too expensive. Furthermore, insurance payable premiums have doubled over the last decade, further declining the ability of most citizens to afford healthcare insurance. As a result, many people are either underinsured or uninsured (Commonwealth Fund, Oct. 2015). The population is aging, signaling that there will be a higher likelihood of increasing the number of people with health problems.

To address the issue about the cost of healthcare, the government has introduced the Healthcare Reform Law. To many Americans, this law is complex and runs about a thousand pages in the fine print. However, the main aim of the law is to extend and increase the affordability of insurance policies to many people, extend the Medicaid program to cover a majority of the adults, and support the inventive methods of providing care to lower the healthcare costs generally (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2014) . The law has put in place different strategies to be enacted to attain its goals.

The law will limit health insurance companies from charging exorbitant premiums on their plans. As a result, more people will be at an increased position of comfortably afford to pay for their healthcare (French et al., 2016) . The law will also bar insurance companies from denying people with preexisting medical conditions insurance and increase the age of dependents coverage under their guardians or parents’ insurance plans for up to 26 years (Commonwealth Fund, Oct. 2015). More focus will also be put into preventive and health promotive efforts, rather than focusing on the treatment of ailments. For instance, vaccination programs are meant to become free. The government will also lift the lifetime limit on coverage by insurance plans. With increased affordability of healthcare services, the health status of the population will rise.
