Question 1

Our differences do not or should not define us. We live in a world of diversity where individuals differ on racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic grounds. However, people are still able to live together and achieve their aspirations. Secondly, all differences are socially constructed meaning that they are only abstract and should therefore not define people. Thirdly, with our differences, we still need each other because one group complements the other.

Question 2

Nurse

“ I can tell her age unto an hour” (p.34).

“ I should live a thousand years” (p. 45).

The nurse thinks that she is wiser than every other person thus making her different as such it defines her.

Since she has a good health, she believes to be different from any other person. The line defines the nurse.

Romeo

“ Good heart at what” (p. 69).

“ Why, such love transgression” (p. 98).

The line does not define Romeo because his question does not have a direction.

It means that Romeo has a strong care about other people, especially Juliet. The line therefore defines him.

Juliet

“ I pray thee for you nurse” (p. 123).

“ My only love sprung from hate” (p. 129).

The line defines Juliet because it emphasizes her commitment towards embracing the differences they have with the nurse.

It does not define Juliet because she states two conflicting emotions.

Mercutio

“ Should you burden love?” (p. 178).

“ If love be rough with you be rough with love” (p. 200).

The line does not define Mercutio because it is an abstract question.

He continues to debunk the impact of love in one’s life. However, it does not define him.

Tybalt

“ I hate the world” (p. 38).

“ It fits when such a villain is our guest” (p. 245).

He is not pleased with the rest of the people and thus cannot embrace their differences. The line does not define him.

The line does not define him as he addresses the fact that their enemy should be accepted as a friend.

Question 3

The character that I will talk about is Juliet. If I were in her position, the thing I would have done different is to fight harder rather than pretending that I am dead. I would also have told Romeo about the plans to ensure that they would not face death. As such, this would have saved them from the tragedy. They would end up living a happy life characterized with love.

Scene

Juliet: My love Romeo, do you think we will get the chance to be together again? Must we continue running away together to live a good life?

Romeo: Juliet, my love, I will never give up on what we had made. We must continue to be on the run if that is the thing that will keep us together.

Juliet: Okay, let’s first go and say goodbye to the nurse.

Romeo: make it quick please.

Juliet: All for you my love.

Romeo: Okay.
