Chase Masterson gave the speech in January 2020, and the venue was Vienna. It was part of the Tedx talks 2020 platform. The speech objectives are to inform and enlighten the audience. Before the statement of the thesis of her speech, she attracts the attention of the audience by instilling curiosity to hear more. The audience resonates well with the speech as it connects with it through her eye contact (TEDx Talks, 2020). Through her excellent narration skills, she keeps the audience alert as she gives her speech. Markedly, the audience engages in clapping and smiling, which depicts their attentiveness.
Furthermore, she uses visual aid like the projector to display the components of her speech. The display eases the process of elaboration and understanding of the audience. It further provides the practicality of the speech. As she gives the speech, she moves around the stage and embarks on non-verbal communication skills like gestures to enhance the overall understanding of the audience (TEDx Talks, 2020). Also, she raises and lowers her voice based on the components she passes across. The attribute contributes to further connection with the audience as she narrates her experience (Fuyuno et al., 2017). She applies both formal and informal communication aspects to pass the insights to the audience. Notably, to facilitate active listening, she uses a personalized language where each individual in the audience connects with her points on a personal level. For instance, she uses the first and second person, “you” and “we” respectively, to refer to the audience in connection with her speech. She further signals to the audience when she closes her speech as she restates the thesis, and hence, they are not left hanging.

The speech made me feel elated due to the speaker’s increased connection with the audience. Her presentation was excellent as she had the attention of the audience throughout the entire period as there were no unnecessary murmurs to during the speech. She maintained a heightened level of confidence, which depicted that she understood and had prepared for her speech well before facing the audience. No doubt, her way of presentation had a convincing impact on me. During some instances, she displayed an emotional look that touched the audience and hence pushed it to resonate with her experiences.
Given the opportunity, I will listen to this speaker due to her connection to the audience. Her preparedness and understanding of the theme of the speech and audience make her stand out. The fact that she demonstrates her speech through visual platforms is crucial in the active and passive engagement of the audience as a whole. She successfully encourages the audience to personalize her speech, and this enhances critical thinking skills. Thus, rather than passively listening, the audience is placed in a thought-provoking situation where they relate and embark on a plan of action based on the speech insights.
Chase Masterson uses her experiences and those of the other victims that she had encountered in her healing journey to relate and empower the audience through her speech. She embarks in convincing the audience on the relevance of her findings based on her journey to eradicate bullying and discrimination in society. Markedly, most of her ideas are original as they are from her first-hand experience.
