Job Description
As the search committee chair in the area of Financial Aid, I would seek to theoretically fill the position of an Assistant Director, Financial Aid, at Kellogg Community College (HigherEd Jobs, n.d). The job is full-time and includes a salary of 55,097 to 68,872 USD Per Year. Job duties and responsibilities include assisting the Director of Financial Aid in managing and administering Financial Aid programs in the college. Besides, establishing and maintaining excellence in customer service is also another duty expected of the successful candidate. Additionally, integrity for Financial Aid data activities like imports, exports, and system set-up and changes, is also the job responsibility. The assistant Financial Aid will also be responsible and act like the Director of Financial Aid in case of their absence in the college.
The minimum qualifications for education requirements includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or any related course to the field from an accredited college/university. The preferred qualification is however a Master’s degree or a commitment to pursue a master’s degree in the required field. A minimum experience of two years in Financial Aid, Student Services or Accounting is also required. Experience working with diverse people and population, a community college and with Ellucian Colleague Financial Aid Module is an additional advantage for the job position. The ability to use Microsoft Office software specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Internet search tools; and student information systems, and having knowledge of federal financial aid resources, software and electronic processes is also a major job requirement (HigherEd Jobs, n.d). Additionally, applicants are required to have the ability to handle difficult situations effectively.

Attracting Applicants/Advertising the Position
I would promote the position by posting it on job boards. They include publications and job posting websites that will be appropriate for advertising the job. Examples include NLx, America's Job Exchange, CareerBuilder, and Indeed (“CareerOneStop,” 2015). These job boards are appropriate because they are updated daily thus many people will always visit the sites for updates thus I will be able to reach more candidates. Besides posting on job boards, other strategies I will use to attract candidates include advertising it on the college’s website, and using social media sites like LinkedIn.
Search Committee
The Search Committee would include relevant positions of individuals from across Student Affairs including student life, residence life, multicultural affairs, academic services and student Financial Aid. I will be the chairing the committee as professional in Financial Aid. The Vice chairperson will be the head of the student life, multicultural affairs head being the director, the academic services head as the coordinator and the head of student residence life will be the organizing secretary of the committee. Additionally, one student representative from the campus will also be included in the committee. These individuals from the positions I have considered will be appropriate committee members because they have experience in the field and will be able to identify a qualified candidate.

Hiring Decision
The candidate’s educational background, work or internship experience, and comments from references are the most important criteria to consider as I make a decision of which candidate to offer the job to (Bills, 1990). The education background will provide an insight of the candidate’s field of specialization while the work or internship experience will be useful to recruit a candidate who is aware of the work they are expected to do. Considering comments from references is important because it confirms what the candidate claims, and will also enable me understand the candidate better, thus making the right decision.
