H: Source of hope.
Dawn Hamilton: What are your sources of hope, strength, comfort, and peace?
A.K: As a Christian, my most significant source of hope, strength, comfort, and peace in believing in God. I believe that God is the source of all strengths. I also find encouragement by reading the bible stories and how God helped the biblical characters to overcome challenges in their lives.
Dawn Hamilton: What do you hold on to during difficult times?
A.K: During difficult times, I pray to God to give me strength and courage to overcome the challenges. Praying uplifts my faith in God and help me to trust in him.

O: Organized Religion
Dawn Hamilton: Are you a part of a religious or spiritual community?
A.K: Yes. I am a Christian. I attend church services every Sunday. Also, I attend fellowships and prayers every Wednesday.
Dawn Hamilton: Does it help you? How?
A.K: Being a member of the Christian community is helpful to me. It helps me to relate to God and other people around me. The teachings from the religious leaders give me spiritual knowledge to understand God’s great love for his people.
P: Personal Spiritual and practices
Dawn Hamilton: Do you have personal spiritual; beliefs?
A.K: My personal spiritual belief is a great relationship between God and me. I believe that as a Christian, I can communicate freely with God. I believe that my relationship with God is like that of the father-son.
Dawn Hamilton: What aspects of your spirituality or spiritual practices do you find most helpful?
A.K: Praying is the most beneficial aspect of spiritual belief. I often find relief and peace in praying. Besides, meditation helps me in reassessing and reevaluating myself for further personal and social understanding.
E: Effects of Medical Care and end-of-Life Issues
Dawn Hamilton: Does your current situation affect your ability to do the things that usually help you, spiritually?
A.K: No. Despite being sick, I always find time to communicate to God through prayers and constant reading of the Bible for encouragement.
Dawn Hamilton: As a doctor, is there anything that I can do to help you access the resources that usually help you, spiritually?
A.K: Yes. You can provide me with a bible as I enjoy reading the word of God for encouragement and spiritual nourishment. I would also like to have personal time to make my prayer and connect with my spiritual father.
Dawn Hamilton: Are there any specific practices or restrictions I should know about in providing your medical care?
A.K: As a Christian, there are no treatment-religion restrictions. I believe that God is the source of all knowledge and wisdom. Therefore, he uses doctors to perform his work on the sick. I believe that you will do your best to ensure my wellbeing.
Dawn Hamilton: If the patient is dying? How do your beliefs affect the kind of medical care you would like me to provide over the next few days/weeks/months?
A.K: In Christianity, it is not right to kill people. Therefore, when patients are on the verge of their death, the belief expects the doctor to do their best and help them. People are expected to die naturally as opposed to assisted death. The latter may be considered a murder, hence breaking one of God’s ten commandments of “do not kill.”
