The state of healthcare in the US continues to be an issue that seems to have no permanent solution. Healthcare managers in different areas of the sector continue to contemplate how best to fix a system that appears to be dissociated with the needs and demands of the population. The healthcare system in the country faces challenges based on costs and access. According to Horn (2015), insurance premiums remain at an all-time high despite the efforts of the Affordable Care Act. The government under the current administration seems to have no solution for the issue, as so did the past administrations. From the video, key areas that appear to need reform include the cost aspects of the country’s health system as well as the value of healthcare offered to the population.

Obama administration in bringing in the Affordable Care Act envisioned a system that would expand the volume of population among the working class and lower-income communities to access healthcare. The reform, however, has since led to the compromise of the value system in healthcare facilities, with its focus having been keenly tailored to guarantee volume access overvalue. The imbalance in value as a result of the surge in the number of people accessing healthcare has seen deterioration in the value of services offered in health institutions (Horn, 2015). As such, the two healthcare reforms that shall prove objective in elevating the state of the country’s health system include focusing on value-oriented healthcare systems through expanding on health infrastructure and the need to restructuring the healthcare insurance system in the country. The two reforms have a chance to guarantee improved access to value-based healthcare and while ensuring costs are managed without overwhelming the low-income households in the country.

I find your post interesting by the manner in which you have identified and illustrated your points. Indeed, the implications of Affordable Care Act and its intentions have not fully been realized. Instead, we have a situation where the current administration has moved in to make changes to the Act to try and align it to the changing state of our health system. The surging numbers of the uninsured needing health services remain alarming and, indeed, there is an urgent need for reforms based on addressing the healthcare value system in the country. Your suggestions on addressing costs and enhancing prevention strategies fall much on the need to improving primary healthcare systems to allow easy access and value guaranteed on the current healthcare structure.

The choices of reforms you have proposed are quite critical as they are crucial in the improvement of health quality in the country. Value-based purchasing as a policy would focus much on healthcare spending. An area that, for a long time, has contributed to the rising costs in healthcare services procurement. Aligning the procurement process within the healthcare system allows for a continued reduction in healthcare spending across all levels of government. The second proposal of reforms on improving preventive healthcare systems plays into offering solutions to the current situation. With a robust preventive and early warning systems, the healthcare sector shall develop its resilience to disease outbreaks through the adequate primary preventive system.

The highlighted areas of reform in your discussion post are crucial for the successful establishment of robust systems of healthcare. Accordingly, the value-based purchasing (VBP) as an area of focus grants not only health institutions but the government and the public an opportunity to save on costs associated with health services. Further, the hospital readmission reduction program (HRRP) offers a structured strategy through which health facilities can employ in ensuring that costs associated with hospitalization and readmission are reduced. The enforcement of the HRRP shall offer a system from which preventive healthcare is guaranteed for patients hence an improvement in healthcare.
