Research and development are inseparable in the contemporary world characterized by changing people's needs, environmental changes, and technology. A look at the importance of research in spearheading non-for-profit and public sector organizations shows that creativity and innovation rely on data. In light of this note, I would use research to create innovative solutions to the challenges facing stakeholders and beneficiaries of non-for-profit and government organizations. Through research, it would be possible to focus on public needs. I acknowledge that priority setting on mitigating problems in society is an imperative aspect. In this case, research would provide proper data that illustrates societal needs on a priority basis. Therefore, research would create an opportunity to solve the most pressing challenges in non-for-profit and public sector organizations. Besides, research would promote budgeting in which the organizations would be able to identify projects, tabulate project goals, projections, as well as cost and time limits.
Over the years, I have observed that research has been instrumental in the public sector organizations operating in my community. Public administrators have been using data and performance measures to examine the government’s scorecard vis a vis the established policy interventions. For instance, the administrators have been using data to examine the effectiveness of mitigation measures created especially in the event of various pandemics. Moreover, public administrators use data and performance measures to review the public perception of government projects. While using data, the public administrators have been able to make informed decisions in particular on crime prevention. They have relied on crime statistics to identify areas at higher risk, the most affected segments of the society, and the potential solutions. For example, public administrators have been using data to create solutions for teenage indulgence in opioid abuse.
