Question 1

Linderman Industries’ adoption of project organization to get the Mexican subsidiary started was appropriate because in that way, it was able to get experts woo could deliver the project within the scheduled time and those who could accomplish the work effectively. For example, Conway was appointed for the assignment because of his experience in heading large defense projects within the aerospace industry. It means that people like Conway had the ability and the expertise to get the Mexican subsidiary started and competed within the scheduled time. The project team was composed of people from different divisions and who had extensive experience in various fields.in this regard, it was imperative that completion of Mexican subsidiary would most like experience success in the shortest time possible.

Question 2

In wanting to get some of the key people after informing the division managers, Conway had difficulty in getting the ones he wanted because the managers had the fear that their best employees would be snatched away and therefore affect their performance. For example, Sargis refused to release Bob Cates because he was already grooming him to take over his job upon his retirement. He stated that Cates was his best man and that he could only help him choose another person. It was also difficult for him to get the people he wanted because some people feared that they would not get back to their jobs when Operation Mexicano is completed hence rejecting the offer. For example, Bert Mill who had an extensive experience in managing production operations declined the offer on such grounds after consulting his wife. On the same note, Jim Burke also refused to release Emil Banowetz, threatening to issue his resignation if he was forcibly taken away from him.

Question 3

It is not possible for most people to turn down a chance of joining a project organization in the same way that Bert Mill did because the pay is normally lucrative. Most people would be willing to resign in their current jobs to immediately join a project organization. However, Bert Mill had an advanced age and he feared that with his old age, it would not be possible for him to get back to his previous job or even get another job upon completion of Operation Mexicano. In most cases, people would be flexible and complete work with the Operation Mexicano and consider looking for another job but this would mostly be in the case of relatively younger people.

Question 4

Conway took his problem with the engineering vice president to Linderman to be resolved in his favor because Linderman had deep interest in the project and would do anything to ensure that it gets completed in time. He therefore ruled in favor of Conway in as much as Conway had other disputes with manufacturing vice president as a way of motivating and supporting him in his efforts of ensuring the project completion. Linderman never wanted anything that would distract the completion of the project and this is the reason he ruled in favor of Conway even as much as he had other disputes. However, the engineering vice president did not take the decision kindly since he was disappointed.

Question 5

For the people coming off Project Mexicano including Carl Conway, the project manager, to get good jobs, it is imperative for Linderman Industries to give good recommendations that would enable them approach other companies successfully. Linderman Industries can also consider taking them through extra training programs related to project management since this would give them an upper hand over other potential applicants.
