Avatar is a science fiction movie produced in 2009 by James Cameron. The story is about an unidentified Military group that invades a planet, Pandora, in an attempt to mine the underground resource that holds together the people of Pandora. The military is prepared to do anything in order to obtain this mineral and in an attempt to do so, they end up affecting the natives and their environments. Owing to the fact that he is an environmentalist of prominence, the movie revolved around honoring and respecting life and nature altogether.
The Science fiction is set in the future clearly showing how history repeats itself, as it depicts the brutality and segregation that befell the native Americans as they fought off occupancy of their lands by intruders. The history of conflict between, green and generosity, respect and ignorance of supremacy, kindness and abuse, religion among others, is clearly brought out. The extent in which the invaders go to obtain the native’s sacred and rare mineral, all at the expense of sacredness of life and the interconnection between nature and life disturbs the residents of the foreign lands. This does not go well with the image that the scientists had painted for themselves with the natives of Pandora.

The conflict between humans and nature is clearly portrayed and it emphasizes on the importance of conservation of both life and nature as well as in overcoming greed altogether. The concerns brought forth by the film Avatar; for example, destruction of rainforests and removal of mountain drop for the purpose of mining, led to the eviction of inhabitants from their homes as well as destruction of the one thing that held their life in place. This led to chaos and in the end, we see the natives, with the help of the modern human scientists, striving to preserve their home and eventually defeating the military. The movie in more ways than one depicts the current situation in the world today. The scramble for the liquid gold, oil, has left various countries in disarray. The perpetrators of these misdeeds, the US and other first world countries, usually have use the excuse of doing it for the good of the people while at the same time serving their own personal interests.
