Great leadership begins with setting standards of behavior. The following are the core values and principles defining my mind and purpose of living. My mind has always given me hope that I can make a change. This value of making a difference encourages me to think of possible solutions to most of our current world emerging problems such as climate change, poverty, discrimination, corruption, large scale wars and religious conflicts. From this value, I have commanded a great respect amongst many irrespective of age and other social status.
Secondly, my mind is characterized by the value of respect; to myself as well as others. This value has allowed me take time to listen to other people’s views and perspectives even when I have my own beliefs. However, the foundation of the aforementioned values is courage. Courage has helped me make new daring attempts, have confidence in others as well as boldness to speak (Northouse, 2014). As a result of these values, my leadership has always been distinguished in numerous ways. For instance, the number of customers in my small retail shop which I opened three months ago is on the high increase. This is attributed to the latter two values.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with Stephen Covey that leaders who deeply comprehend their goals and mission must have standards of behavior they stand by. This is because what differentiates one leader from the other are the values they set and abide by. My three values mentioned above have made me achieve great things, and I still long to explore much in real life. I therefore send my advice to parents to nurture their children within set standards for them to emulate. Once the values are absorbed by young teenagers, they become permanently part of them.
