Q1
The current social change that has redefined the cultural perspective of humanity on the basis of skin color and ethnic background is the perception of black lives matter. The people of color, especially the blacks, have been made to believe that they do not have an equal opportunity as the whites to exercise their fundamental human rights. Hence, the violation and discrimination of the blacks outline the dysfunctions that are caused in the society based on the philosophical standpoint of racial inequality ( Keirns, Strayer, Griffiths, Vyain, Bry, Cody-Rydzewski, ... & Sadler, 2015 ). The main theoretical approach that demystifies the relevance to the people of color embrace civil disobedience as a technique of fighting for equality between and among people of different races is the theory of functionalism. The theory of functionalism outlines the reasoning as to why the civil rights movements that depict racism could be used as a platform for gaining solidarity as a dominant group. One of the cultural changes that are defined by beliefs, values, and practices is the initiative of failing to appreciate talents from a subjugated group on the basis that they are not entitled to share similar advantages like the dominant group.
Q2
The film has changed my thinking about race based on the reasoning that the people of color have the same professional potential, just like the whites to represent diverse personalities. In this context, it is quite imperative to note that the concept of racism is socially constructed and it is instilled in the mindset of the dominant group that they are better than the people of color and are entitled to the social benefits, unlike the discriminated groups who are considered weak and incapable of representing the dominant group in any capacity (PBS Digital Studios, 2020). However, science has revealed that the measure of intelligence and personalities is not determined by skin color but rather the dedication to make a difference in society. The race was constructed by the white settlers based on the belief that they were the dominant group, and they were entitled to be superior to the people of color. The fabricated notions of racial deference served the white settlers by putting them in the forefront to take up leadership positions and represent the black in the farms and factories.
