In my present nursing practice setting, I have explored the culture of safety by maintaining an open line of communication with all the healthcare members through the use of electronic medical records (EMR). Using EMR in the health facility has led to the promotion of a culture of safety for patient data. EMR leads to free, clear, respectful, and open communication between healthcare providers in various departments ( Abdekhoda et al., 2016) . The use of EMR in the healthcare organization leads to a culture of safety by ensuring that a patient's medical and treatment history is put on a digital platform where all healthcare workers can access, thereby improving patient safety and care. Particularly, I use the Meditech EMR system that promotes safety by eliminating medical errors that are found within personal health records.

The system supports security of patient data by imposing entry controls and standardization ( Sun et al., 2018) . As a result, the controls significantly reduces quality issues and enhances the confidentiality of patient information compared to manual systems. Therefore, the use of Meditech enables healthcare organizations to conform to the requirements of HIPAA, which denote that sensitive patient information should be protected ( Lambooij et al., 2017) . In addition, the system supports security of data through encryption, where patient information is coded in a way that only authorized program users can understand.

Furthermore, Meditech EMR supports fluid team communication through data codes that are easily understood by all healthcare providers, especially those that work on a shift basis such as nurses. Therefore, the system provides open communications to all employees and gives a clear direction. Besides, Meditech supports an enhanced workflow that enables safe practice by ensuring that there are multiple approvals for various processes. For instance, all healthcare operations are done on a multidisciplinary approach and collaboration of all healthcare workers. As a result, medical errors are avoided, thereby enhancing a culture of safety within the organization. In addition, collaboration leads to an effective workflow, thereby helping to maintain safety in healthcare.
