The marginalization of a group of people may lead to hate and disdain for the law. This is because these groups are often isolated and feel humiliated. As a result, their members are susceptible to radicalization and can resort to violence to address their perceived abuses. This paper will address the use of violence and whether the government has the right to use available policies to quell the violence.
Minority groups and unhappy portions of a populace may feel abused and humiliated by the societies they live in. They may therefore choose to use violence as a tool to fight the inequality or injustice they feel. The rising right-wing extremists in America evidenced this due to tough economic times during the '90s and 2009 and the election of a black man to the white house (DHS, 2009). Another group that felt marginalized was the Muslim community in light of the 9/11 attacks. Their emotions may be understandable but do not give them a right to use violence. In a democratic country, the rule of law exists to protect every citizen equally. Therefore, they should pursue legal means of addressing their concerns.

The government, through various policies, has to suppress violence caused by disgruntled citizens. If all disgruntled people were allowed to use violence to address their concerns, then the country would descend into chaos and anarchy. Through the acquisition of national intelligence and the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act, security agencies such as the CIA, DHS, FBI, and NSA can detect and respond to plans of violence, whether by foreigners or citizens. The PATRIOT Act also gives those agencies tools to detect and fight terrorism which may be in the form of domestic insurrection.
