Main Points and Arguments of the Article

From the article, cycle of socialization is a method that identifies human social identity in relation to where they were born, their customs and their culture that constitutes them. The cycle assists humans to know the ways in which they are prepared to undertake responsibilities, and how people are affected by oppression issues. The cycle is made up of three circles, three arrows and a center core. The first circle represents the place or a situation where people found themselves but cannot change it. Humans have no consciousness, choice, or guilt. There is no information of a person’s social identity and power. People are born without bias, questions and assumptions but just acquire them through inheritance. The first arrow represents a situation where people are taught personally by close friends and family on duties they should take and how to follow rules and respect others .

The second circle introduces people to institutional and cultural socialization which help a person shape his or her views and beliefs. People are taught about education, religion, law, medicine, and the institution of government. They are also made to learn the cultural beliefs, language, songs, and media aspects. The arrow that follows illustrates the enforcements made through ideas and beliefs People are rewarded or punished according to their behavior ( Bobbie, 2000) . The third circle represents a devastating result that is produced by the self-perpetuated cycle of oppression. The results affect everyone with or without power. The outcome include; silence, anger, prejudice, stress, violence and crime. Finally the third arrow shows the outcome of the oppressive cycle. People are coerced to make decisions even if it means doing nothing which is an easier choice for beneficiaries of the oppressive cycle.

Opinions about whether the article was a .clear, thorough and useful explanation of the subject

The article clearly and thoroughly articulates the subject matter discussed on the entire cycle of socialization. The text explains social differences among human beings and how they are born into a specific set of social identities. Also, it explicates how the whole socialization process comes from all directions, which follows a specific pattern and is self-supporting. The article further explains the process of socialization, the source, and how it affects the lives of people. The questions I would ask include; why is socialization important in our civilization? What is the analysis of the social role and status of socialization? Which is the widest agent of socialization?
