Different philosophers and people, in general, have different definitions for the term, ‘ethics.’ In the purest form, ethics refers to a system of moral principles ( Winch, 2020) . The word itself is derived from the Greek word ‘ethos,’ which means character, habit, or custom. It separates what is deemed as moral and what is seen as immoral in the society, bearing in mind that certain things may be deemed moral or immoral by different societies or communities, ethics is limitless and is defined by a specific, or each community. While people’s culture determines what is ethical, ethics also affect how people come up with decisions that guide their lives. In general terms, ethics deals with what is right and evil, how to live a good life, rights and responsibilities, and the language of right and wrong. The concept of ethics is derived from societal factors such as religion, philosophy, and culture. Ethics aims at finding the truth, fairness, and what is moral. It fuels debates across topics such as abortion, professional conduct, and human rights. It thus creates dilemmas as every issue presents problems on both sides.

Ethics guides the thinking or the action of people and offers them the option to go about their endeavors in a moral way. It can provide a moral map where it acts as a guide through which an individual carries out an action or makes a decision. The moral map provides a way through which an action is undertaken while considering all ethical repercussions and how the individuals involved are all affected. Ethics can help two people on different sides realize their disagreement and even come up with a solution for their problem. This is because it does not point out what is right, or one side of an issue. One thing that makes ethics complex is the fact that it often provided more than just a single answer ( Barnsley, 2020) .
