The process of developing nursing standards in Florida is a multifaceted one that revolves around the Florida Board of Nursing. The Board typically creates the standards as stipulated by the Nurse Practice Act of Florida. These standards are binding to all nurses working in Florida and ensure the respect of professional and ethical guidelines
The Florida Board of Nursing establishes the standards through assessments and empirical insight. The rationale is that a nurse is supposed to collect comprehensive data about a patient relevant to the situation or the individual’s health ( Toney-Butler & Martin, 2018) . Taking the vital signs will enable a nurse to come up with empirical data about the patient’s condition. The empirical model of nursing is descriptive, factual, and its ultimate aim is to develop an abstract theoretical explanation ( Marion, et al, 2016) . On that note, empirical insight is the science of nursing. As a pattern of gaining insight, it taps into the traditional insight of science whereby reality is received as something that can be validated by others in this case ( Salemhet al, 2018) . Identification of the vital signs will enable the nurse to establish the patient’s current conditions and the underlying issues that are affecting the person’s health. Such insight will enable the development of a suitable course of action to treat the patient.

The standards are vital in my specialty since they enable ethical practice and insight. In the relationship between a nurse and patient, the nurse is assumed to have a therapeutic intention and is considered to be an autonomous agent; therefore, he/she is charged with making decisions that lead to desirable health outcomes. Besides, ethical insight is a focus on issues of duty or what needs to be done. Knowing in ethics is to examine the ethical codes or norms of discipline in making moral choices and taking authority over these choices. Ethical insight leads one to seek an answer regarding what is just and right.
