As far as business information technology is concerned, they are two forms of the signal used conventionally in linking one device to another. These are the analog and digital types of signals. In as much as these forms of signals primarily carry out the same function of linking devices, analog signals are characterized by a continuous wave which keeps on changing over a given period, which in most cases occurs unsystematically. As opposed to the analog signal, the digital form of signal is usually discrete in nature. What this means is that digital forms of signals are characterized by codes which are considered discrete by their interpretation. From a broader perspective, an analog signal is presented by a continuous wave that changes over time while a digital signal is shown by a discrete wave that carries information in what is termed as the binary form.
Additionally, while a sine wave represents analog signals, the digital signal is presented by square waves. The analog signal also has no fixed range and transmits data mostly in the form of the wave while the digital signal has a finite range running between 0 and 1, and carries data in the binary form of about 0 and 1. Lastly, about the advantages of digital signals over the analog signals, the analog signal is more prone to distortion while the digital signal is less prone to distortion. A perfect example of the analog signal is the human voice while signals used for the transmission in a computer are the best examples of digital signals.
