Response to Question Five and Question One in Chapter 7
Question One: Ways through which Supervisors Motivate or Demotivate Workers.
In an organization, supervisors play an important role in motivating the works to improve employee productivity. However, the supervisors' actions, either knowingly or unknowingly, can either motivate or demotivate team leaders (Spectrum Business, 2020). As a team leader, my supervisor increases my motivation in several ways. The ways include being respective, encouraging autonomy, being able to take complaints and criticism, encouraging open discussions, and appreciating good work (Berman, 2015, 127 - 130). On the other hand, sometimes, the supervisor acts in ways that decrease my motivation. Some of these ways include using micromanagement tactics and introducing rules that are sometimes unfair and practically inapplicable, being inconsistent in issuing his directions and setting goals and objectives for the team, and sometimes mistreating the team members (Andriotis, 2017). These actions are not pleasant, and they sometimes decrease both my motivation and the overall motivation of the team.
Question Five: Common Teamwork Problem
Working with people can be difficult sometimes, more so if the work is to be done by a team. As a team leader, the common challenge is leading a team that has difficult and uncooperative people, which results from inadequate vision among the team members (Berman, 2015, 138). This problem lowers the effectiveness and efficiency of the team. This problem is unavoidable since its occurrence is dependent on the personalities of the team members. Hence, the only solution to it is addressing it through various means. The most effective solution to this problem is setting individual goals for each team member and delegating specific tasks to each team member (Center for Creative Leadership, 2021). By delegating specific tasks and setting specific goals for each member that is in line with the goals and objectives of the teams, the difficult and uncooperative team members are forced to work towards the objectives of the group (Initiative One Leadership Institute, 2020). The reason being, the specific tasks and goals take off the cover of the other group members and put them in the limelight.
