Based on my area of expertise, I will select the image that depicts the Japanese Bombing of Pearl Harbor, which took place in 1941. The image is a clear illustration of Japan’s desire to kill Americans who were stationed at the harbor (White, 2016).

The images that were easily discarded include those that show Hiroshima City after the bombing, the Japanese boy whose flesh was burnt, and the Japanese girl with hanging skin strips. These images show the negative effects of the atomic bombs and, in effect, prove that the US was wrong to drop the bombs. However, based on the image shown above, the dropping of the atomic bombs was justified, and, for this reason, the three images should be discarded.

The question of whether the US should have dropped the two bombs on the Japanese is a difficult one since the move had mixed effects, that is, both positive and negative effects. The dropping of the bombs led to the war's immediate conclusion, but it led to a massive increase in Japanese casualties (Sagar, 2016) . In addition, the move demonstrated the power of such a weapon and, resultantly, prevented another world war, but it led to prolonged after-effects, including health problems for the Japanese.

Truman’s decision cannot be judged since he was the president and, in effect, was tasked with protecting American lives at all costs. Additionally, he was being advised by other individuals. Such influences played a part in his decision-making.

We would need to know whether the decision to drop the bombs on the Japanese was purely military or based on a hidden agenda. We would also need to know how far Truman was willing to go make the Japanese quit the war.
