Notably, there are several health concerns such as HIVAIDS, environmental quality, nutrition, obesity, overweight, healthcare access, and violence among others which physically, mentally, as well as economically impact the communities. Thus, the issues necessitate an effective action that may encompass the use of medication to address and solve them. Therefore, this paper elucidates the diverse facets of health concerns in the two videos chosen, that is, the themes in the videos, promotora model, the community aspects, as well as culture and health indicators.

This paper utilizes ‘Promotoras and Community Health Workers Network’ and ‘Las Promotoras: Kaiser Permanente Helps Latino Families Access Care’ videos to elucidate on the issues the promotoras addresses in their respective communities. In the ‘Promotoras and Community Health Workers Network,’ the main theme addressed improvement of outcomes that the underrepresented part of the populace experience through supporting, enhancing, and advocating for Community Health Workers (CHW) and Promotoras network (Vision y Compromiso, 2010). According to ‘Promotoras and Community Health Workers Network’ video the community members are facing several barriers when accessing healthcare services. These health issues include Safety-Net services and benefits are being cut to make up for budget shortfalls (Vision y Compromiso, 2010). Therefore, the promotoras have come together to relay the community’s grievances and issues to the public officials and offer the general public health education. On the other hand, in the ‘Las Promotoras: Kaiser Permanente Helps Latino Families Access Care’ video, promotoras work hand in hand with the community to address issues such as Diabetes, nutrition and physical activity (Kaiser Permanente, 2010). The promotoras are addressing the issue of illnesses by starting a popular Zumba fitness class, weekly nutrition classes, visiting families to check on their lifestyle and nutritional wellness.

Additionally, the promotora model is successful since it ensures community issues are addressed. The use of promotora model has led to communities leading a better way of life. Since promotoras are members of the community, they have instituted meaningful relationships with community members and become powerful advocates of individual and community transformation. They have achieved this by sharing knowledge with the members of the community regarding the available resources and how best to utilize them. Thus, the promotoras have created opportunities for members of the community to participate in actions at individual and collective levels.

Furthermore, the promotora model addresses several aspects of community organizing. The first aspect is advocacy for policies that address critical issues that the community faces such as diabetes, human rights violation, social justice, and poverty. Additionally, the promotoras have championed for instituting of relevant programs that address the community needs. Examples of such programs include enrolling members in health insurance programs, receipt of preventive care services, and improve self-efficacy. Also, the promotora model encourages community engagement and participation in activities that are focused on the betterment of their lives.

Lastly, the promotora model can be used to address some cultures and leading health indicators such as tobacco use, substance abuse, and environmental devastation ( U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , 2018). The promotoras can assist in the rehabilitation of tobacco users as well as reduce the number of initiates amongst adolescents and young adults by educating them on the health repercussions associated with smoking tobacco. Additionally, the promotoras can assist reduce and rehabilitate persons engaged in the use of illicit substances and binge drinking of alcohol ( U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , 2018). Lastly, the model can be used to address environmental devastation issues such as releasing of untreated effluents and toxins to the environment, logging of trees, and release of non-biodegradable materials such as plastic. Sensitizing the community on these issues can be handled efficiently by the promotoras.
