Substantial progress has been made concerning the employment of people of color in policing. Does that make a difference in actual police operations on the street? In what ways? Explain.

Employing black people in the United States police force can make a difference in reducing police-community conflict. The aim is to reduce tensions that arise from racial profiling of white police towards black people who believe they are mistreated more than their fellow whites’ civilians. Increasing police force diversity towards the minority reduces the racial stereotypes that both groups may be having against each other (Nicholson-Crotty & Fernandez, 2017). The black people will feel at ease being confronted or arrested by fellow black police, with the imagination that he or she is one of their own. Furthermore, the convicts are less likely to cause commotion during the arrest, thus reducing the possible brutal force of police operations.

Hiring black police force reduces fear and insecurity that a minority of people may have against the already biased white policemen. Tolliver, Snowden & Brown-Manning (2016) asserted that the white police have been accused of molesting and causing brutal deaths among the blacks. The interests of blacks like justice will be secured, and possible discrimination will be ejected out in police force. The white police will not use excessive force, against minority since it will be evident from their black colleagues. The white police will have to override their active stereotypes and make the right decisions of being just on all accused without any form of discrimination.

Recruiting more black police officers will build trust and acceptance when it comes to law enforcement to minority groups in the United States. Representing every community in the police force will reduce crime rates. The minority will feel served in law enforcement and will not wish to go contrary to one of their own. It will create a sense of belonging and a conscience to the minority that they should not break the same law that a member is helping to maintain (Ozkan, Worrall & Piquero, 2016).
