Both personal and professional stressors affect police officers. The eyewitness account is important to criminal justice and impact on the administration of justice since it is linked directly with the investigative process. Different factors affect eyewitness accounts. Police officers are human beings and influenced by both personal and occupational stressors. Some of the personal stressors for police officers include family disputes, an insufficient workforce to handle different jobs, responding to felonies, making an urgent decision that is critical, and conducting follow-up for police officers deemed not to be performing duties as expected (Violanti et al ., 2016). Other personal stressors include engaging in activities that cause pain and marital issues. Professional stressors to police officers include excessive paperwork and poor quality equipment. Sometimes, the equipment can be inadequate, an insufficient workforce, public criticism, and a negative attitude directed at the police officers (Violanti et al ., 2016). Other professional stressors include regular court appearance even when the police officers are on leave, less support from the police department, lack of promotion even while working hard, and political pressure that results from the police department. Criminal justice supports fairness, and fairness cannot be achieved when police officers fail to collect quality evidence. The collection of quality evidence and recording of the eyewitnesses' statement cannot be done accurately by the police officer who is stressed. Dealing with different witnesses requires a sober mind. Still, police stressors make the police make errors while recording statements from eyewitnesses, which negative creates loopholes for the defense to poke holes and easily win the case (Violanti et al ., 2016). The administration of justice is important, and errors in dealing with eyewitness can make some suspects acquitted even if they committed an offense. Police stressors could promote impunity and also paint badly criminal justice that is supposed to deliver justice. The police officers are human beings and have feelings just like any other human being. Stressors negatively impact police officers. The eyewitness memory is adversely affected by events that quickly unfold. Lighting and memory, among other factors, affect the memory of the eyewitness, and that affects the subsequent investigative process.
