The factors that modify the human behaviors in their environment are a subject of discussion in the field of social science. In an attempt to expound on this matter, many theorists have had interest in this field. They have done numerous research studies to find out more about different factors that reshape how people behave in their environment. For social workers and policy formulators, understanding the human behaviors in their environment is a factor that is of critical consideration in their environment. Social workers thus use different human behavior theories to understand the victims' past and also solve different challenges they face in their daily undertakings.

The system theory

An excellent example of a theory that social workers rely on to understand the human behaviors in their environment is the system theory. The system theory is critical in understanding the factors that interact to influence how people act and react in their environment. According to the theory, different systems connect to define the manner of behaviors in the environment. In this sense, a social worker has to place several factors or systems into consideration as they attempt to navigate through different factors that may have an impact on the behaviors of the victim in question. The case of Juanita is an example of a case where the system theory can be applied to help the client address her issues that she faces that has made her life difficult ( Amato et al., 2018).

Understanding Juanita’s case using system theory

The system theory can assist in understanding the case of Juanita only after understanding some of the related and interconnected system or issues which Juanita has faced throughout her life that have come to define her personality. To understand the issues affecting Juniata’s life, understanding the relationship between them using the system theory is essential. Note that what Juanita is facing are issues that result from immigration, child abuse, drug abuse, gender discrimination, economic crisis, and social discrimination in society. These are some of the factors that have made her be on the run every time as she struggles to set herself free from the challenges that face in her environment. Through the system theory, it is easy to understand the relationship between the financial difficulties with issues such as immigration because, due to economic challenges, immigration becomes inevitable. Furthermore, the economic difficulties lead people into issues such as human trafficking, which would father leads to drug addiction and deaths ( Cislaghi&Heise, 2018). As people become helpless, mostly the female gender, they tend to take risks and jump to marriages or relationships the way Juanita did, and this leads to more risks.

Helping Juanita using system theory

Helping Juanita using system theory is possible. The requirements for a social worker, in this case, is to come up with a system that documents and try to relate the factors that affect her life together to find a common solution. To help Juanitausing this theory, understanding and strengthening one part of the system or the problem could be important as it will mark the beginning of rectification of other interrelated parts of the system that leads to the victims’issues in the long run. The first strength is to use a framework such as Ecomaps to understand the problems that affect Juanita. Ecomaps is a flow diagram that would help understand the relationship between Juanita’s family background, her journey as an immigrant, her journey as sex workers and a human trafficker, her life with fellow Colombians, and her marriage with the person whom she thoughts were a right person. It would be easy to draw the connection between the factors to find the strongest that could be addressed fast to reverse the situation using this flow diagram. A genogram, which is a family tree representation, could also be used in this case to map out the key issues that Juanita has undergone to find how they relate together to define her life. The last step is to strengthen one part of these matters or systems to improve on the others. For instance, education could one of the issues that could be addressed in the case of Juanita to help strengthen other factors and deal with other challenges. Improving her education could mean improving her job status, looking for legal paper for her immigration, and also addressing economic challenges, she is facing.

Policy Description

The best policy to address Juanita's issue is to look for a policy that will address poverty at a family level. A good policy, in this case, would be affordable, high-quality childcare and early education. It would be a policy that would look into different factors that affect the child’s development and early education. According to toWeglarz-Ward, Ang&Gaynes, (2019), the nature of child development at an early state sets the bar to what the child would be at adulthood. In this sense, a policy that targets growth at an early stage would be best to reduce poverty that leads to issues such as immigration, lack of jobs, drug addiction and trafficking that Juanita has experienced in her life. Such a policy would address education, health issues, job for the parents, and family stabilization to enhance proper childhood development.

Juanita’s source of social challenges was poverty at an early stage of life. With raged to high-quality care and education policy, attending to the education needs of a kid at an early stage would address the social issue that comes with poverty. Socialization becomes difficult when a person is poor because they always face victimization in the social context. Through addressing the health issue at the early stage and later stages of life, a person finds the energy to work and become productive. Further, education empowers people to find a job and do something meaning for in their life that enriches them economically. Also, education is a fundamental legal right that shapes a suitable environment for a person to gain both economic and social stability and thus reduce chances of involving in a different illegal issue that could land a person to legal hand. If Juniata could have received better health and education programs under education and sustainable health policy, she could have probably been in a better place than she is in her current state.

At the micro-level, the policy should be concern about education and health provision to all people with limited discrimination to any person based on race or ethnic background. At a Mezzo-level, the policy should look to come up with social initiatives and financial support for al education institutions, healthcare institutions, non-governments organizations that look into health and education in all areas without discriminating any neighborhood. At a macro-level, the policy should have a non-discriminative project in education and health that should target all areas in a country to ensure that there are no children that face challenges with their early developments mostly with regards to health and education ( Lawrence, 2018).

To advocate for Juan and other people who also experience issues that affect her, creating a documentary where these individuals engage in interviews to reflect their past and share with the world could be an excellent way to draw empathy from different people. Also, giving them social media attention. Television interviews could also help these people draw the attention of those who could empathize with them and help them with their problems through communication, reflection, and empathy ( Bowles et al., 2018).

National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics

Ensuring social justice has been the core of my work with my clients. Further, the provision of services with integrity to all the clients is also part of my interactions with my client. Further, the centrality of humans by ensuring a high degree of ethics and addressing my client with dignity are also some of to NASW code that I incorporated during my interaction with the client. My decision while handling the clients was ethically oriented because I was following the codes of ethics under NASW. For instance, my conclusion to assure the client that she was not only safe in my hands but her information was also safe in my hands helped her get relived and share her details with me. Integrity with staff, support staff, and clients helped me build a mutually beneficial relationship that encouraged me to face different challenges. My willingness to provide services coupled with my respect for human dignity and competence was critical for my interaction with staff, clients, and the community at large.
