One of the most prevalent instances of fear among entrepreneurs is the fear of success. While it may appear casual, the fear of success is one that stops many potentially successful leaders from achieving their maximum potential, as they hold themselves back from achieving this potential. This paper considers Tim’s case of the fear of success and looks at possible interventions for his actions.

The board was right at firing Tim at the time that it did, as his actions went overboard. However, the board bided too much time as it would have offered some interventions when some dangerous signs became apparent, such as Tim showing up to meetings drunk. Staging interventions to determine the roots of Tim’s problems would have been appropriate when this behavior first showed up, thereby avoiding further disasters and the loss of multiple organizational opportunities (Bélanger, Lafreniere, Vallerand, & Kruglanski, 2013).

It is possible that mentoring by the previous CEO would have helped Tim assume his new role more easily, as this would have oriented him to the tasks and responsibilities of the top position. Moreover, Tim would engage in a soul-searching exercise that would reveal his past’s influence on the current state of affairs and begin a new narrative of his own regarding success. One version of the narrative would consider his strategic career actions until his appointment as CEO to know that his father’s words did not hinder his success thus far. As a result, he could create his own story, apart from his father’s.

Therefore, working with Tim as a life coach, it would be foundational to assure and convince Tim that he is the only barrier to his success; he is not his father and he is not bound for failure as he thought he was. Moreover, Tim required to set goals and maintain success habits, if he was going to be the best at his job (Spring, 2015). Finally, achieving those goals and setting others in their place would help Tim to remain on the path to success.

Conclusively, therefore, it would be profitable that Tim understands himself and his autonomy from his father’s mistakes. This involves uncovering unconscious behavior manifested within his present behavior, and what can be done to reverse its effect on his career. As a result, he will be able to distinguish his path to success and make a good career for himself as a leader of whatever organization he is called upon to lead.
