Forest has value beyond economic wealth

It is stated in this case that it took millions of years for this forest to evolve to this states. Further, the case has also stated that this forest is complex ecosystem which at as a home to different animals and plants which depend on each other. It means that cutting down these trees will lead to the rapid extinction of these plants and animals since their existence depends largely on this forest. Further, clearing this forest means that the forest will take a longer time before replacing the chopped off trees, and this may disturb its irreplaceability. Further, it is because of forest that the world climate is balanced ( Shaw, 2014). The forest helps in enhancing a continuous carbon flow and also help in balancing greenhouse gases between the atmosphere and the biosphere. What this means is that the forest act as the lungs of the world. Interfering with this kind of resource as the companies such as Maxxam is hazardous not only to the plants and animals within this forest but also to the entire world. Redwoods are more important since they provide safety and act as a home for the endangered species of animals such as Coho and Chinook salmon.

Hurwitz is a pure Businessman

The question of whether the private individual has authority to do as he or she wishes with timberland or forest depends on where the person owns the forest. Based on the legal perception, all the wildlife and forest are federal property and are covered and protected by the government. Further, it is not permissible to destroy timberland even if one owns it since it will have a negative impact on the plants and animals and the entire world which is not privately owned by such individual. Hurwitz is a pure and straightforward business man. It is evident from this case that this is a business who so motivated by money like any other business people around the world. He is a kind of capitalistic individual like Warren Buffet. He didn’t take over Pacific Lumber to help its employees or the people around, but to make money with minimal input.

It Was Not Out Of Passion for Protecting Environment

It was right for the mainstream environmentalist to fight against Hurwitz whom in this case was considered evil. If this fight were out of the will of these individuals to help save the environment from this so-called evil and help people, then it would be justified. However, this is difficult to tell. Maybe they were just fighting to gain public relations. In these cases, such individuals fight and take advantage of the situation to make their side right in the face of people. Remember, the environmental group that fought Hurwitz is a conglomeration of different individuals, politicians, business persons and many others ( Reynolds, 2015). These people know that to get the better of the public; then you got to go against those considered devil by the public. If the radical group such as the Earth First have the right intention, then their move to protect the environment is justified.

We Are Obliged to Save This Forest

The old redwood forest is the home of many animals and plants which would have extinct if this forest was not existing. It also offers protection to these animals and plants, and thus it has a value which we are obliged to protect by conserving it. Human interest need not be given much weight with regards to forest since it is the forest that serves as the lungs of the world. In case it is cleared, it would be a disaster. This is the reason why the forest has legal right to be protected so that small and valuable endangered species can be protected for tourist attraction and the next generation.
