One critical factor in terrorism is the improved technological advances in communication and ammunition. For example, compared to the traditional terrorist organizations that relied on face-to-face communication among members, the current groups heavily rely on the use of social media to communicate with their members who are spread in different parts of the world. These organizations are also using the digital space to spread propaganda from unknown locations (Bakker, 2012). A quick review of Twitter and Facebook brings to light the extent to which terrorist organizations are using the digital space to promote their activities. Moreover, these groups use different media types such as videos and images depicting kidnappings and killings to spread fear worldwide. In the future, terrorist organizations will take advantage of the changing trends in technology to promote their heinous acts.

Further, the rise in technological innovations has facilitated the production of more sophisticated warfare. Indeed, terrorist organizations are competing with sovereign governments in the use of complex ammunitions in their activities. In the future, terrorist organizations will use these technological breakthroughs to advance their operations.

Another issue would be ensuring that terrorist organizations do not receive enough funding for their operations. Unfortunately, research indicates that wealthy individuals in various parts of the world provide the funds that run these groups. These finances are sent through indirect means to support terrorist activities. Going into the future, it will be challenging to find out the members of the public who support terrorist initiatives (Bakker, 2012). Besides, the loopholes existing in the criminal justice system ensure that such individuals buy their way out into freedom. Also, most of the captured terrorist leaders and members do not get the sentences that befit the inhuman activities they are engaged in. There is also reluctance among law enforcement agencies to perform community policing initiatives to prevent the rising cases of terrorism. The challenges within the criminal justice system will exacerbate in the future, leading to rising cases of terrorism in the future.

People tasked with protecting against terrorist attacks should counter the increased terrorist propaganda in the digital space. Also, they should disable the funding networks that ensure terrorist organizations receive the finances they require to perform their daily activities.
