The gap between the rich and poor countries refers to the inequality among states witnessed across the globe. The gaps relate to development, poverty levels, widening technological divisions, the impact of globalization, the $1 a day measure of poverty, and structural adjustment programs. These gaps determine which country is superior to others. Therefore, it is essential to focus on the gap between the countries while exploring why it keeps increasing.

The gaps are as a result of various factors such as technology whereby some states have advanced while others have lagged behind. Another factor is globalization and international financial institutions. The gap between the poor and rich countries keep widening, meaning that rich states keep getting richer while the poor keep getting poorer. In addition, income inequality is rising and many fear that this gap is hurting economies, individuals, and even societies. According to Sheehey (2014), the increasing divergence of income levels between the rich and poor countries is as a result of differences between the labor force and population growths that vary with income levels. According to the Economic Cooperation and Development, the richest 10 % of the population earn over nine times the income of the poorest 10 percent. This proves that income inequality is a factor that contributes to the gap (Kagan, 1999).

Concisely, the gap between the rich and poor countries is as a result of a difference in income levels that have reached the highest level over the last 30 years. The income gap is on the rise and it is evident that the inhabitants of the poor counties live below $1 a day, meaning that the level of unemployment is high in poor compared to rich countries.
