A high number of intellectuals across the disciplines centered on the behavior of human beings, and even the ordinary members of the public converge within their patterns of thought that the social issue of privilege continues to stand out as one of the society’s major dilemma, especially within the 21st century. While most research studies conducted on this social dilemma indicate that the problem exists in nearly every aspect of the society, its manifestation is most prevalent on the issues of gender and race. This paper purposes to delve into the subject matter from the perspective of the two mentioned aspects.

Victimization

Victimization is one of the many ways through which gender and racial privilege manifest themselves in the society. Victimization occurs in various forms, with the most prominent being the case of an individual from an inferior race such as a black American, viewed as more vulnerable to committing an act of crime, or engaging in a behavior that would normally involve exemption from suspicion in the case of an individual from a superior race such as a Caucasian American. In the case of gender, an individual of the female gender is privileged compared to that of the male gender as the society is programmed to view its male members with suspicion compared to its female members, especially in situations where perpetuation of crime is suspected.

Domination of Careers

Another aspect of the society where the social dilemma of privilege is manifest revolves around the domination of careers. In this case, male members of the society are more inclined to pursue careers that are comparatively better than those pursued by the female members of the society regarding remuneration and terms of service, making them dominate such careers. In the case of racism, the situation is similar since certain occupations, such as the best paying and prestigious jobs are dominated by members of the superior races as opposed to members of the inferior races.

Social Mobility Climb

In this case, individuals belonging to races considered to be superior to the other, tend to have higher chances of social mobility climb, as opposed to individuals from inferior races. This normally occurs across various institutions in the society such as educational establishments, government offices and social gathering areas. From the gender perspective, men tend to be more privileged compared to their female counterparts due to the longstanding domination of the social space.

Access to Government Services

Individuals from races perceived to be superior tend to be privileged than their counterparts from the inferior races regarding access to government services. The primary reason, in this case, is that they tend to dominate such government offices in terms of workmanship and staffing. In the case of gender, females tend to be more privileged compared to males due to reasons of sympathy and sensitivity towards their gender.

Longevity

In this case, individuals from races perceived to be superior tend to live longer compared to those from inferior tribes due to the presence of high-quality life regarding Medicare and nutrition, as opposed to members of inferior races who mostly lack them. Regarding gender, women tend to live longer than men due to the reckless behavior of men in most cases, and the ability of females to endure stressful life situations.
