Synopsis
Chapter 8 gives an overview of the Gospel of Luke, which also contains major themes and historical background. It contains materials that are only specific to Luke in the New Testament, which emphasized poverty, riches, Samaritans, women, and the City of Jerusalem. Moreover, special attention is also given to prayer and worship (Powell, 2018). Special concern is also demonstrated for the disadvantaged and outcasts, including the role of Jesus as the savior of the world.
Chapter 10 gives an overview of the materials contained in the book of Acts. It is a historical book comparable to other ancient historical materials. It focuses on God’s mighty power and sovereign control of the world’s history. His faithfulness is also highlighted, including the consequences of rebelling against him (Powell, 2018). It portrays the Israeli remnants as being faithful to God and Jerusalem being the center of Christianity. Furthermore, it points out the presence of Jesus within the Church, including his role as the savior.

Reflection
Looking at the two books of the New Testament, I find it interesting that both of them were written by Luke. The book of Acts is a continuation of the book of Luke and deals with issues that were highlighted therein. However, I find it refreshing that the book of Luke is unique in that it contains materials that cannot be found anywhere else in the New Testament. The book is also arranged in a systematic manner in that it starts with a dramatic beginning through the births of Jesus and John the Baptist. It then progresses to a central section that covers the journey to Jerusalem and finally to the teaching and ministry of Jesus. It is a unique book that exhibits features and themes that are not touched by other books in the New Testament. Another interesting aspect to note is that both books are historical materials which provide insights as to the genesis of salvation and God’s sovereign power over mankind.
