Healthcare is a vital concept that must be upheld for the benefits of the people. Patients fall sick and are admitted on a regular basis as others get well and discharged from the health centres. The nurses are at the centre of all these services being rendered to patients. They advocate for patients and the healthcare plan patients get. In addition, patients receive quality services from the nurses who are charged with ensuring the patients are well cared for at the health centres. Despite the efforts nurses put in their work, they are underpaid, overworked and face risks such as job dissatisfaction and burnout.
In the past, various interventions were tried in an effort to decrease burnout and increase nurse resilience; however, none of the interventions has been entirely successful. However, the use of a gratitude journal would help the nurses disregard the negative attributes associated with their jobs and focus on the positives they experience in their jobs. This would help them get over the negativity they have experienced from their jobs. In addition, it is a normal thing for people to remember the negative experiences they experience during the day; however, incorporation of the gratitude journal would help attain job satisfaction considering that it will help reverse the behaviour of thinking about the negatives.

According to Bryan Sexton’s “Three Good Things Intervention” idea is vital in keeping the mind off the negative things. According to Sexton, despite the fact that humans are hard-wired to remember the negativities of the day it is very simple to flip around the natural inclination. In addition, it is easy to create a positive environment and building resilience. Thinking of the three good things that happened during the day hence focusing on them is the key. The target group of nurses that the gratitude journal would focus on is the Cardiac Surgery Progressive Care, nursing staff. The gratitude journal would be used on the staff for a dedicated amount of time enabling them to form a habit of positive thinking. The nurses would be accorded about five minutes at the end of every shift for their own personal reflection regarding the experience they had. In addition, they would note down three positive things that took place. Even if they had a bad day, they might form a small positive thought in their minds hence changing the narrative of that day, which may include; early lunch, working with a great team of workers and all patients feeling good.
The importance and benefits of this project would be increased moods of nurses, their resilience and job satisfaction. The nurses would realize their importance to the patients by using positive feedback. This may make the nurses feel wanted and appreciated hence gain a positive feeling about work. This project would be effective and necessary considering that there are no costs to the health centre. In addition, all that is required is for the nurses to note their thoughts down in a journal or on their phones. In the event the project becomes a success, a general gratitude journal could be created in the health centre with dates for the nurses to note down their positive thoughts and experiences.
After initiating the project, it would be necessary to evaluate the level of success. Therefore, a pre-survey would be conducted to evaluate the level of job satisfaction of the participants’ in the project. In the pre-survey, among the questions that would be availed include the level of satisfaction on a scale of one to ten. Moreover, the pre-survey would also include a comment section where the nurses would be allowed to write down their major frustrations at the workplace. Allowing the nurses to note their frustrations would help the management of the health centre to address the challenges nurses experience. In addition, after conducting the pre-survey, a post-survey would be conducted to compare the level of success that the project has attained. The hypothesis held in the post-survey would be that the nurses would have increased job satisfaction. Therefore, the project would have achieved its goal of increasing positive thinking and increasing nurse resilience.

The role played by nurses is vital hence; they must always be kept happy to avoid mistakes. In advocating for patients requires being the first person to defend patients at the worst periods in their lives. Nurses would not have jobs in the event that patients are not protected from bad things that happen in healthcare. In addition, gratitude journals can help nurses debrief and focus on all the positive things that take place in healthcare. It is essential to study and initiate this intervention to attain more information. All in all, the gratitude journal is vital and should be incorporated into the Cardiac Surgery Progressive Care Unit nurses to boost their resilience and job satisfaction.
