In the years 1929-1940, the American population faced the hardest economic blow ever faced in its history. This saw almost half of the American population lose their jobs, companies and banks closed their doors and due to lack of resources, farmers left their crops to rot in the farms as the rest of the country died of hunger. Despite these hard times, President Franklin D. Roosevelt managed to get the country through the Great Depression. I admire Roosevelt and his accomplishments at this trying time, that’s why I chose the Great Depression and the New Deal as my topic of discussion.

Through his vigilance and believe in his people he managed to get the country’s economy up and running again. Through his direct talks to the public over the radio in a program called, “Fireside Chats,” Roosevelt brought back hope and optimism to his people by instilling in them that the only thing they had to fear was fear itself. He also signed and passed notable acts such as the provision of a pension to the unemployed, the old and the physically challenged which are still helping the American people to date. The new deal by Roosevelt also saw the floods in Tennessee Valley being controlled and the water consequently used to provide hydroelectric power to the population. It is because of this accomplishment by President Roosevelt in a very challenging time in the American history that makes me admire his leadership qualities and consequently chooses this topic for discussion.

The following website helped me through my work by providing very useful information: http://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-by-era/great-depression-and-world-war-ii-1929-1945/great-depression

The most important reason as to why people visit websites is so as to gain information about a particular subject or topic. The reason as to why I chose the above website over others is because it is very informative. It gives detailed information about the great depression, the causes, and the effects as well as Roosevelt’s new deal which helped America to recover from the great depression. The website is visually appealing making it easy to read the others, the use of black font with an optimum size serves this purpose well. The adequate white space on the website, as well as the clean layout, makes it easy for one to concentrate and focus on the subject of discussion. Apart from being easy to read and understand, the website is easy to navigate. There is minimum scrolling on the first or home page which makes the website more efficient than the others. The tabs on top of the page, navigation links on the left along with the link texts makes it easy for users to navigate and gain more information about the topic.

Several things were learned about the topic, the Great Depression, and the New Deal; such things include: Leaders are the pillars of the society and the decisions that they make determine the development or the failure of society. Leaders with good qualities make decisions that are reflected in the way of life in the society. During the administration of President Herbert Hoover, America faced a great depression, he, however, refused to help his people by claiming that giving financial support to banks and providing employment for the people would only make the Americans dependent. Roosevelt, on the other hand, came up with reforms, actions and his decisions were reflected when the Americans recovered from the Great Depression under his administration.

The reasons as to why I would recommend this site to others are because it is, informative, educational and the ease of navigation makes it easy for users to grab the concept of discussion. The page and the links integrated into the fast page are also fast loadings which keep the user interested and at the edge helping the user to gain more by visiting the websites. The website is also a full package of the Great Depression and New Deal topic; this prevents users from visiting many other websites in search of the same subject, which is not only tedious but annoying.
