Genetic modifications have been around for quite a while and recent researches by scientists have resulted to the high productions and health safety of the products. This paper will review and compare two articles relating to genetic modifications and explains if the modifications made are likely to influence the decisions to consume the product.
Types of Modifications used
In the first place, the salmon fish have been modified to regularly produce a growth hormone gene that enhances their rapid growth. According to Gallegos (2017), under normal circumstances, the salmon fish is expected to produce the growth hormone only under the right conditions for rapid growth. In early life, the modified salmon fish experiences growth at around four to six times more than other salmon fish (Gallegos, 2017). Modifications are done on the chromosomes by making them all female and sterile. The modification tends o boost production.

On the other hand, the Arctic Apple uses the RNA interference technology also known as gene silencing to modify the apples. Gerlock (2017) states that modification takes place in the target gene controlling the production of the enzyme turning apples brown once sliced. Scientists specifically add an extra RNA strand that effectively switches off the DNA that turns apples brown once cut (Gerlock, 2017). The Arctic Apple has been modified to remain fresh for long hours after being sliced.
Impact of the type of modification used on decision to consume the products
Consumers are always keen on issues relating to modifications especially on plant and animal products. The nature of the modification plays an important role in determining its influence on consumer decision making process. The consumer-friendly nature of the modification will be largely preferred compared to those that conflict the consumer interests. Consumers are more likely to opt for the GMO salmon fish since the only modification is the use of growth hormone (Gallegos, 2017). This does pose any possible side effects during consumption. On the other hand, the Arctic Apple is also more likely to be positively accepted by most consumers as it enhances the fresh nature of apples, something that has been a challenge for long.
Conclusion
Genetic modifications in food products have been on the rise recently due to in depth scientific research. Currently, salmon fish and the Arctic Apples have already been produced and await consumption in the U.S. However, most consumers are more likely to consume the modified products provided no side-effects arise.
